You don’t have to be a neo-fascist to appreciate the awful struggle that this fight represented for the German people. Unfortunately the war has been portrayed as a black and white, good versus evil fight, but the behavior of the allies during and after the war is shocking and sobering indeed (or at least it should be). The fact that the red army committed heinous acts is common knowledge but the bad behavior of the allies is much less well known. Poor historians like Stephen Ambrose on the American side are partly to blame as they’ve been more cheerleaders than real historians, which has contributed to a lack of real understanding about this war. Great book- I only wish that there were more openness to this type of dialogue these days. Pick it up soon. It might be banned in the near future. Review: Solid, Well Written Review of the U.S. Treatment of Enemies and POW's During WW2 - This is a very well written and surprising account of how savagely the United States and its allies would treat its enemies during the Second World War. The accounts are graphic, and they help to elicit a sympathetic, humane perspective toward our enemies, Japan and Germany, which I found both refreshing as well as unusual. Did we go too far in our effort to win? Read this book, along with perhaps one or two others, and decide for yourself. Highly recommended. There was no need for the author to try to make the allies to look as bad as the genocide committed by the Nazis. It is like the author wanted to treat every returned soldier as a war criminal.
