Despite frequent cleaning, it wasn't long before the grout became discolored, until now where it is black. Would the 511 Porous Plus be more effective in keeping the dirt out of the grout? If I should apply the Porous Plus, how do I prepare the grout after I clean it? **Q: How many sq feet does a pint cover?** A: It depends on what you are sealing. For slate, flagstone and Saltillo about 250-300 sq. ft. per quart. For polished stone--granite, marble --likely 1000 sq. ft. per quart. For slate I use about 1 Qt. per 300 sq. ft. A bit more with Travertine. It does a great job. I recommend their cleaner prior to sealing. A Pint of the cleaner goes a long way. I had used another product in my other shower which worked fine with my kitchen granite counter tops, but marble and grout are more porous. After applying this product two time with paintbrush and then wiping down five minutes afterwards with moist towel, my shower was sealed real nice. I even went back and re-did my other shower. I found it best to pour a little bit in cup and apply in uniform direction with brush and wiping down in same direction. I applied two coats. It works extremely well. It actually gives you a nice light sheen on the tile and it prevents water penetration. The only thing is that when it rains, I do have to blow the water off with my electric blower because the water will sit on the tile until the sum hits it for a while. Grout and tiles darken but when the sealant dries/cures the grout color returns. Maybe overall a bit darker than before sealing but looks better, without looking rich like some sealers that "enhance" the tile and grout for that always wet look.I'll have to seal every 6 months or sooner but that's because of the tile choice we made.
