If you hold the black section at the top and pull from the silver section just below it, it’ll pop off. The second part is the wide silver piece that goes over the actual cup and is below the cap. The second part is where the strainer is located. It should be a metal sheet with holes in it on the inside. The third part is the cup. If there is no strainer in the second part, then you should exchange it. It’s most likely a defect if it’s missing. It’s a really good mixing cup.
