You don't need a light box. Just a large table. When I actually had trouble seeing the pattern lines I used felt markers to outline the pattern put the paper on the pattern and easily traced it. **Q: Can you see through very well to make patterns?** A: This is a very good racing paper. It should be very easy to make patterns with it. I use it to trace my sketches and transfer to watercolor paper. I like it very much. **Q: can pins be used on it** A: Yes, you can use pins.
