Opening up a whole new dimension of professional photography: The U-BF was specially designed with the professional photographer and his digital SLR (like the Canon EOS 1D, the Nikon D3, the Sony Alpha 900 or the Leica S) in mind. The big difference between the U-BF and other housings in the U-B.. Series is the fact, that in addition to the little finger insert to operate the shutter release with the right forefinger, the U-BF comes with a "glove" integrated into the housing. This glove is designed for the left hand of the user and allows him to cradle the camera and lens in his left hand the way he would if using the camera without the housing. Having his hand on the lens then allows him to operate the camera and lens manually and access all the details to allow him to make the photo with the exact settings he desires. It's easy to use, on the cheaper/more affordable end (as opposed to the $1700 average you pay for a hard case). The way you seal it is simple and effective. The plastic is extremely hardy, it would take a lot to puncture it. Nothing feels cheap, except for perhaps the little rubber things holding the screws on.Cons:You have to really be careful weighting it. Buy some weights because it's impossible to get all the air out and then it floats which makes it almost impossible to get a good shot. Even with the "glove" it's really hard to focus/press buttons/zoom in/basically use the camera buttons. Prepare for a steep learning curve. I had a 24mm-75mm lens and had to hold the lens pocket flat against the lens or it wouldn't focus/I'd see the end of the black circle. There's a couple small parts that could get easily lost so make sure to be careful of that. The design is a little strange since you have to put your camera in upside down from the opening, which is kind of counter intuitive and several times I put my camera in the wrong way, but I think I can chalk that up to part of the learning curve.Final assessment:It's a great product if you're starting out in underwater photography and don't intend to go too deep or in the ocean at all. It's hardy but I don't think it would really stand up to the kind of beating the ocean would cause. I only shoot in pools though, so I can't say for sure. The price is definitely the best thing about it, and it's nice to have something in between the $150 thing I wouldn't trust my $3k camera in and a $1700-3000 thing I can't possibly afford.Alternate note: Amazon shipped this thing to me two weeks after they said they would and it didn't include the bar necessary to get it to be waterproof. I bought it with a month left until my extremely important photoshoot, thinking I had plenty of time, and it barely showed up three days before the shoot and without an extremely necessary part. When I contacted Amazon they basically said oops, can't do anything about it, so I had to go out of my way to contact the company's only North American dealership (these are made in Germany) and pay $50 to overnight the part. And I'm lucky the company was so understanding. So definitely high marks for them. They made a good product and their customer service is impeccable. Not so much for Amazon.
