It was impossible for us to find 'turned' ... *by D***B on Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2017* We are truly well pleased.It was impossible for us to find 'turned' - 'unfinished' - 'hardwood' dowels of this diameter & length...until we found Craftparts Direct here on Amazon.These dowels (we've purchased the 2"x36" & the 1-1/2"x36") are being used asJapanese Rolling Pins [MenBou 麺棒 - めんぼう] for traditional noodle-making.They are perfect. Truly beautiful lathe-work and well finished (i.e.-sanding).These dowels didn't require any extra sanding attention.They don't come with a glass-finish, but we couldn't ask for smoother or better from a raw-wood supplier.We've gently softened the edge of each end and then the pins were conditioned with (food-grade) Walnut Oil.We used La Tourangelle Roasted Walnut Oil, as that's what we keep it for cooking.This process takes some patience.~ Rubbing on the Walnut Oil, then allowing the wood to 'drink it in' for 24 hours.~ Buffing the wood with a soft cloth, and then repeating the process...... over, and over, and over ... until the wood simply doesn't 'drink in' any more oil.Then give it a final 'super buff', and the pin is ready to roll out dough for noodles.The time it takes for this process is different for each piece of wood (i.e. natural material).However, most typically, it shouldn't take more than three to five days.Its not a 'difficult', nor 'labour-intensive' process...you just have to be patient in between applications as it takes time for the wood & oil to naturally do their thing.Once finished (no pun), you'll have a Truly Beautiful 'MenBou' [麺棒 - めんぼう] that will serve all your noodle-making needs for years to come.We Highly Recommend these dowels & Craftparts Direct for their fine craftsmanship.Palms Pressed...Thank you ### ⭐ Misleading product photo *by R***. on Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2018* NOT a bundle as depicted. Lucky me, the umbrella pole diameter was 1 1/2" - which is a size that neither of the big box hardware store seem to carry - at least by me they don't. So, I ordered this dowel and was quite pleased with the quality. Although the listing did not specify the type of hard wood - the dowel that I received was made of maple. The dowel was nice and straight and was exactly 1 1/2".
