With minor handle reshaping, sanding and a tung oil coat it is comfortable in the hand and beautiful to look at. I did not need to reprofile the edge, but it did need a little more time on the stone to bring to the sharpness I wanted. The steel seems good and took the edge well. From end of handle to top of axe head is 15”. Blade is 3.5” and head is 6.25” long. Great hatchet spent 3 hours chopping spruce kindling still sharp as new. **Q: Amazon has this listed as the new version. What is the difference? Did they work out the problem with the axe head breaking?** A: This axe head is made by hults bruk, if you are not familiar with them they make some amazing axes out of sweden, id say high end, so this is a great buy. **Q: Could yhis hatchet be used for carving spoons ?** A: You might be able to rough out the big chunk to carve from with a knife, but I wouldn't want to carve the whole thing with it. Looks like the price has jumped up $20, but it's still an incredible value for your money. Husqvarna hatchets are primarily hand-forged in Sweden, often made by established Swedish axe manufacturers like Hultafors at Hults Bruk. I wanted something nicer than you'd find at your local hardware store and Wranglerstar turned me onto this one. Sheath is top notch thick leather with brass rivets. The handle shape is excellent.
