It reads like a neuroscience book from the far future, or from a higher dimension of reality. Ever since I met Terence McKenna, and had my first experience in what is now known as "DMT hyperspace" in 1984, I've been obsessed with learning everything that I can about this remarkable state of conscious, and whether they're is actually an independent reality to the beings that I encountered there, and that many people report from their experience with high-dose DMT. For those who have followed Terence and Dennis Mckenna's work, Rick Strassman's research, and the ever-growing internet reports, this book adds a brilliant and unique perspective on how our brains may become receptive to higher dimensional aspects of reality by increasing the brain's DMT levels. The book starts out simple and the complexity slowly builds and builds, until he reveals what he believes the goal of life to be. Much of the book is speculation, of course, but grounded in good science, and Gallimore's research proposal for prolonged DMT states-- "target-controlled intravenous infusion of DMT" are mind-blowing, and I'm sitting on the edge of my seat watching as this astonishing research develops. It's not a traditional read by any means and the artwork and presentation only enhance that fact. I also thought the entire presentation fit perfectly within the theme of the book - it's a work of art. So reading a work of art, about a work of art we are imprisoned in, was almost...liberating? Not quite! A real mind-bender that would have made McKenna and Lilly proud. As soon as I got this book I knew I was going to cherish it. The book certainly encapsulates a very special aspect of the zeitgeist of this age. I'm going to give it another read, it gets pretty deep and is chock full of technical jargon. Nothing too heavy though, I studied physics in school so I'm more than happy to read a psychonaut waxing philosophical and scientific. I was thoroughly impressed with the ideas presented in this book. It's another step in the Escher-staircase of psychonaut theory and one of the best I've read. There were some very surreal parts that involved things happening to me that coincided EXTREMELY strangely with what I would then read in the book. Synchronicity doesn't feel like it does it justice - that intense. I felt like the artist of the great game definitely had a grin at my expense while reading this. Truly profound. That's the thing I always found most mystifying about DMT - the inexplicable synchronous events that happen BEFORE the encounter, that only make sense after a breakthrough. A mystifying precursor to the psychedelic experience of this profound chemical. A fascinating look into the behind the scenes of our world and it's link to other worlds. It really gets the mind working with clear explanations of complex concepts. I read the Kindle version but am going to buy the hardcover version as well.
