Review: 160/320 Gb in VXA-3/Now Tandberg - I recommend the Tandberg/Exabyte backup solutions and associated media. Tandberg procured Exabyte and the web site describing the available media is located at the following url: [...] I am hopeful that desertcart can update the description of this product. In a VXA-2 drive the tape capacity is 80/160 Gb and in a VXA-3 drive the capacity is 160/320 Gb. I used a VXA-2 1X7 autoloader for many years and recently installed a VXA-3 1X10 autoloader. The systems have performed well using first Dantz, now EMC2 Retrospect as the backup utility. Generally, I have been able to store less than the advertised capacity of the tapes (~70 Gb on VXA-2 and ~130 Gb on VXA-3). The backup speed varies from a ~100 Mb/min to 700 Mb/minute on a modern PC with an Adaptec SCSI controller. The capacity and backup performance are strongly dependent on the nature of the material to be backed up. Many small files that do not compress well take longer to backup than large compressible files.
Review: The only game in town, but a good one - The VXA series of tape drives is one of the few cost-effective options for backing up systems with very large disk drives. It's not perfect, but it does the trick, particularly when using a system such as Dantz Retrospect which supports incremental backups to tape for both PC and Mac. Incremental backups allow one to go back in time, a la Mac OS X's Time Machine service, but without the space limitations intrinsic to Time Machine. You can back up to as much tape as you have room to store, and the tapes themselves are small. There is only one source for VXA tape, since there are no third-party manufacturers of the format. Luckily it's a good product. I've never had one go bad on me. The drive automatically spaces past any (rare) bad spots it finds.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Tapes!

I use these VXA tapes all the time for extremely valuable data. They are reliable and last for years. Of course, I do keep them pretty secure in a shock proof turtle case.
