The caps take a little getting used to, but once you understand how they work they are great. If you want to shake something up without spilling, then you need to screw the caps way, way down. That's what takes getting used to. As you screw the caps down you hit a place where they feel petty tight... But, they are not yet tight enough to stop from leaking when shaking. And then you discover that you can screw the caps down some more until they definitely stop tightening. Part of this is just breaking in the caps, they are a bit stiffer at first but become more pliable with use. But if you look at how the caps are made you will see that there is a point where the end of the test tube is rammed into a groove in the cap and that is really what stops the leaking, but it takes some effort to ram the test tube into the groove. They are not glass, they won't break. On the other hand they probably don't take much heat or a Bunsen burner, so their use is limited. The plastic tubes are clear and thick. They held liquids and were transparent. The rim of one test tube was chipped when I took it out of the package, but the cap still screwed on. The caps are soda bottle caps—pretty cheap, and not what I expected, but they screw on just fine.
