A: Male end (the metal pronged end) is non-polarized. That is, both prongs are the same width (not to be confused with the prongs' thickness/gauge). The female-end (the end with the slots you insert the male end to) can accept polarized and non-polarized male ends because the female end is "polarized". Polarized plugs are mostly for safety purposes to insure the plug only goes in one way (and thus insuring appropriate flow) and reduce potential for shock. On a side note, people often confuse "Polarized plugs and outlets" (male plugs and female outlets of the different widths) and "grounded plugs and outlets" (3-pronged plugs and outlets); they're not-the same thing. Grounding something is different from the direction of flow.
