Review: Fantastic! For its low price and the light achieved throught the CN-160, it's worth the investment! - I have had some unfortunate situations where I have had to shoot photos with low light outdoors and using my flash and avoiding the use of a very high ISO, the end result were blurry pictures because I had to guesstimate. I invested in ring lights but the problem was the light was not strong enough. I needed a better light to shoot my subject(s) and figured, I would need to invest in purchasing an expensive lamp and a battery pack. But my friend in Japan had a device that connected right on top of his hot shoe and he had control of how much light he had. But he was in Japan, I was in the USA and was a bit bummed because I wasn't planning to go to Tokyo any time soon. But my friend said they were available in the U.S. and pointed me to the CN-160 on desertcart. And sure enough, having received the device, here is my review for the Neewer Pro CN-160. I. WHAT IS INSIDE THE BOX? Inside is the Neewer Pro CN-160, battery adapter, one white, one pink and one orange filter plus a silver wallet to store each filter. The battery adapter allows for one to use three kinds of Sony lithium batteries, a Panasonic lithium battery or six AA regular or rechargeable batteries. II. INSTALLING THE BATTERIES Well, in terms of the Sony or Panasonic lithium batteries, I didn't have the right size to test those out on the adapter but I did test them with six Eneloop rechargeable batteries. But all you have to do is remove the back cover and insert your batteries and install the back cover to make sure your batteries don't fall out. III. TESTING THE DEVICE Attaching the CN-160 to the hot shoe was easy. There is a locking mechanism to keep the device in place, you can adjust the amount of brightness with a knob on the side of the device. There is a button that you can press to test the charge capacity of a battery. But went outside at 9 p.m. to shoot and immediately, I was please by the amount of brightness there was from the device. Granted, it won't be comfortable for portraits as you don't want people looking directly to your camera with the bright light shining on their faces. But if you have them looking to the side, it works perfectly. Great for those shooting objects, flowers or plants at night and once again, you have control over the amount of light by a simple turn of a knob. In front of the LED light are holders, so you can use the white filter for a diffuse effect, the amber/orange filter for a 3200K color temperature effect or a pink filter. But the regular light on its own has a color temperature of 5400K. Because this uses six batteries, not only did I find this device to be affordable but also cost effective if one uses a rechargeable batteries. The device runs on battery power for a long time and just a great lamp light for your DSLR! JUDGMENT CALL: For those who have shot photos or video outdoors and have been through those moments of wishing you had strong light at that moment, well now you know that there is an affordable device that gets the job done. All you need is a hot shoe, so if you have one, Canon, Nikon or whatever brand of camera that you have, this device will work. Avoid the ring lights, the Neewer Pro CN-160 LED camera video lamp gives you the light you need for those low-light situations for a wonderful price under $35. It takes six AA batteries and also utilizes Sony and Panasonic lithium batteries. It comes with three color filters and does what is expected of this device! A magnificent lighting device that I highly recommend! 5 Stars!
Review: I use my CN-160 light panel every day and that is not an exaggeration. This light panel has helped me on dozens of little jobs. - NEEWER 160 LED CN-160 Dimmable Ultra High Power Panel Digital Camera / Camcorder Video Light, LED Light for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Panasonic,SONY, Samsung and Olympus Digital SLR Cameras I purchased this light panel in 2014. At the time, I was really interested in video production and I needed a powerful but light and affordable light system. My camera rig consisted of a Canon 70D mounted to an Opteka X-GRIP, which is basically just a simple, foam-handled camera grip. Now I did not realize this when I bought X-GRIP, but this exact combination was popular with skateboarders. It is because they can glide down the road carrying their SLR in one or two hands, and simultaneously record smooth footage of their ride. Furthermore, I noticed many of these skaters shot at nighttime. In order to capture their footage, they mounted a powerful, little light panel to the hot shoe that’s built into the top of their Opteka X-GRIP. It’s nifty, little setup. After seeing how powerful the light is, I decided to purchase two CN-160 light panels for myself. Budget Three-Point Lighting Now I’m not a skateboarder. I was just a budget videographer who needed a cheap and portable three-point lighting system. The CN-160 was the answer to my problem. Once again, I am not a professional videographer. However, I was able to create professional looking stuff using two of these light panels plus the cheap soft box I already owned. Of course, I needed to attach each one to a light stand, which was an additional purchase. (I purchased the cheapest Cowboy Studio light stands I could find on desertcart.) I also needed to order two light stand adapters. I went with high quality Manfrotto adapters. You do not want to cheap out when it comes to this. The plastic ones break too easily. I think if you’re trying to produce your own YouTube videos, this is a good product for you. If you’re trying to pull off professional lighting for a paid gig like a wedding or glamour shoot, you might want to look into more professional stuff. However, if you’re just getting into videography, this is more than adequate. Just be sure to purchase two. Also, make sure you have light stands and adapters so you can position the panels anywhere and make adjustments on the fly. Not Just For Videography I use my CN-160 light panel every day and that is not an exaggeration. My apartment is kind of dim. My family is always complaining about the lack of light fixtures. I’ve been meaning to address that issue, but lately I find myself using my light panel for countless every day activities. For example, it’s a great reading light, especially if you pair it with a flexible tripod such as a GorillaPod. Simply position it on your nightstand and use the dimmer switch to adjust its level of power. (It is extremely bright. You won’t need to use its highest setting.) I also use the CN-160 to do repairs around the house. It certainly came in handy when I had to work underneath the kitchen sink. It’s easier to set up than a plastic droplight and you don’t need to deal with a 25-foot extension cord. I’ve even used it to change my car battery at night. This light panel has helped me on dozens of little jobs. I bought this light panel to help me with my videography and I’m not even doing that anymore. So I’m glad it’s getting plenty of use instead of collecting dust in my junk box. Battery Life According to its desertcart description, the CN-160 will accept several different types of rechargeable batteries, which are produced by Sony and Panasonic. I simply didn’t feel like purchasing those special battery packs. I simply use rechargeable AA batteries (Panasonic Eneloop). The CN-160 requires six AA batteries. Sometimes when I fall asleep reading, I forget to switch off the light panel. Nine hours later, the light is down to about 20 percent, but still quite bright. I don’t know how many hours NEEWER promises, but I’m happy with my battery life. I will admit that if I were using regular, non-rechargeable batteries, it probably would start to get expensive.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: anyone found a good protective case to store these in (for traveling)? I have 2 of the lights; but haven't had to travel via airplane with them yet.**
A: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LSJ3BBG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 <-- that is the official Neewer case for these. I own two, because I'd purchased my lights prior, with batteries separately. There is enough room and precut foam areas for the light, charger, large size battery, light filters, and even a cold shoe extension mount.

**Q: How long does the battery life last, using AA's compared to compared to camera batteries?**
A: Depends on how long you let it sit idle. I tried to use it yesterday and 8 bucks worth of Lithium AA cells were all dead. It was turned off (it even clicks off). But it was still using the batteries. So to confirm, I measured the current with it firmly in the off position. It draws a constant 5mA drain with it off. From now on, I'll pull out one battery when I'm not using it. Kinda a pain - especially since the brightness dial has a click-off position which means they should have used that to disconnect the battery !

**Q: if the Led lamp lights go out permanently, where can I purchase a replacement lamp?**
A: for the Price i Simply buy anotherI wouldn't bother to go through the trouble of purchasing and on top of that taking the light apart and putting in the new 1the Led Panel is the most expensive part of the light

**Q: can it be mounted on light stand?**
A: It is if they send you the mount. The CN-216 they sent me didn't include one and after multiple attempts to reach out, I still don't have one.

Get in touch Neewer. Thanks!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not bad for the price; Still not 100% professional
*by C***S on May 14, 2012*

I decided to take a chance at an inexpensive LED option. I do wedding videography with Panasonic HMC150 cameras. I've had a Lowel light and Bescor battery pack (heavy). I thought I wanted something that would provide similar quality light without the heaviness of the battery pack and light on top. This LED panel is certainly better with regards to weight. I just finished a wedding this weekend where I used it exclusively for guest interviews on the camera. The light worked very well. I also purchased the Cowboy Studio CN-160 (more expensive, but it includes a battery, so it is roughly the same). I did have an issue with the included battery remaining in place when I positioned that light "vertically" as opposed to "horizontally". The cons: *I ordered a second-hand NP-F550 battery and this battery would not work properly in this light. I had to hold the battery at an angle and it would produce light, but when I snapped it into position, the battery would not work. Presumably there was some sort of issue with the connectivity between the battery and the unit itself. It was a Denmar DLS550 battery, a generic NP-F550. Obviously that was no good. After trouble-shooting various options, I found that this light worked just fine with the NP-FM50 battery (generic brand). I just had no way of knowing exactly why the NP-F550 did not work properly on my particular unit. This could have simply been an aberration for this one particular battery and another one may work just fine as advertised. *There is a tint of blue in the light. I think some other reviewers mentioned this as well. It shouldn't be too much trouble to fix it in editing/post. *The unit is plastic, and you should use care when handling it. If you are careful with it, I see no reason why it would break. If you don't, you could easily break the mount. The pros: *Inexpensive *No heat *Worked with NP-FM50-type battery and AA batteries (presumably other kinds as well) *Light-weight *Dimmer has a nice range from low to high "beam" *On the FM-50 battery, we used at least an hour of the battery (of overall run time) and the light was still going strong. Conclusion: I'm not going to give up my Lowel/Bescor light/battery pack combo just yet. I will keep this LED light for now and use it with interview settings. I continued to use my old-faithful Lowel light this past weekend for a wedding I filmed. There was something about using my heavy light that made me feel comfortable and assured while shooting parts of the wedding reception this past weekend. I didn't mind using this LED for interviews because I knew that if something happened I could start over. I don't know that I'm ready to commit to just using this LED alone for wedding videography. If you purchase this light, be sure you have a "plan B" both in battery and in a second light just in case. The light did produce plenty of light for interview situations in a dark reception-like room at night. The intensity of the light seemed to closely match the light produced by my Lowel on-camera light. I hope you find this helpful. This light just does not have the feel of a solid, "primary" light source for the professional or semi-professional videographer in my opinion. (Others may disagree.)
