This is a Public Alert Certified Weather/Hazards Alert radio. They last about 8 days for regular Energizer/Duracell AA Batts. Li-Ion Batteries last about 13 days. I don't recommend rechargeable batteries, they have a lower initial mah and voltage, and I've seen the radios just shut down without warning This is a life saving device, as such, it samples the wx frequencies every second of every day, 24x7, basically the WX Receiver is always on, and receiving, but not sending audio to the speaker. **Q: Can you receive regular AM/FM stations on this unit?** A: Unfortunately, you can't receive radio stations on it. However, there is a built in alarm that can be set.
