Review: Well I’ll be damned (ps this is long but very infotmative) - Starting this off with my hair is in the type 4 category and I wash my hair once a week. I usually use demi-permanent hair color from Sally’s. It’s get my hair black don’t get me wrong but I mean this color is BLACK. It’s a blue based black and my god does it stain stuff when it washes out, my tub was massacred (fun fact, spray sunscreen will get dye out of countertops and bathtubs with enough patience and rubbing). It got on my skin and I looked beaten and bruised. Hated the smell but it’s sweet like bubblegum and chemicals. I saw all these comments about they staying power and was like well damn. Saw another beautiful lady say how she leaves it on her hair all day long just for it to keep its color longer and I thought I did not have the patience or will power to do that. So in my great beautiful stupid brain, I looked at the instructions and saw you could use heat and thought now what if I use heat for longer than it says? Dear lord. I probably left it in my hair for like an hour? I would heat it and let it cool then heat it again because I knew it was going to “fade” faster than demi. It bleeds like sucker. When I first washed it out I was amazed at the pigment but then the novelty wore off and it would still bleed. It’s been 5 months and my hair is still black, like you would naturally assume it’s my actual hair color. You can barely tell the difference between my new growth and the color unless you are all up in my business which please don’t be. It’s not the intense black that it was when it was freshly dyed but she’s still there. She still bleeds but it’s hardly noticeable. Part of me wants to dye my hair again for that intense black but the reality is my hair genuinely does not need it. I’m gonna be real honest with yall and say I do not know if or when it will come out. Side note, I did not use all of the dye and in fact use it to dye my eyebrows. I’ve been using Just For Men since 2016 but this has a lot better staying power. Just make sure to lay a base of Vaseline or something on the skin around and on your eyebrow throughly. Leave it on for no longer than 15 minutes if you’re really brave or you will have stained your skin black. Washing my face helps with that and it fades it a good bit but by the next day it’s gone. Overall 10/10 experience but maybe don’t be like me.
Review: My favorite hair dye. Bright and vibrant, lasts a few weeks. - I have been buying Arctic Fox hair dye for a couple of years and keep returning to it due to its reliability and long-lasting colors for a semi-permanent dye. I've had different experiences with the different colors, having tried purple rain (now discontinued), virgin pink, and sunset orange colors. I will focus this review primarily on my experience with the virgin pink variety, as it is the one I purchased from this site and the one I am including photos of, but I will briefly touch on the other colors later in this review. I absolutely love the shade of virgin pink! It is a bright, electric pink. I lightened my hair to a level 8-ish light blonde using the bleach kit by Arctic Fox beforehand (not included with dye purchase). I found this to be a suitable level to start with, as I've tried dyeing over "virgin" (unbleached) brown hair before and the color didn't show up very well, though with a lighter brown I would assume that the pink would still show up, though perhaps not as vibrantly. The pink dye did temporarily stain my sink and some skin, but I was able to completely remove it from all surfaces using acetone-based nail polish remover for solid surfaces and oil-free makeup remover for skin. I only dyed the bottom half of my just-longer-than shoulder-length hair, and I used the whole 8oz bottle of dye. My hair is also pretty thick, so even after dividing it into 4 sections and applying dye to one section at a time, I had to be careful to make sure all strands were coated with the dye. When I've dyed my hair before, I don't remember using that much dye, so it's possible that I overdid it and possible that I dyed less hair in the past, but using the whole bottle seemed to achieve the shade I wanted and evenness I wanted this time around. While my hair was dyed, my hair care routine consisted of washing my hair about 2 times per week. I am fortunate enough that I did not require more than this. I used Arctic Fox shampoo and conditioner, purchased separately. For the first few weeks, I only applied the conditioner (no shampoo) to the ends, where the dye was concentrated. With the virgin pink variety, I could visibly see the water run pink in the shower each time I washed my hair, and the color did fade over time. I had no issues with dye staining the shower. I only once had dye stain a towel, and it washed out with regular detergent and oxygen bleach (note: oxygen bleach is not the same as standard laundry bleach). The week after dyeing my hair pink I spent a substantial amount of time hiking in full sun exposure, and the color appears even more vibrant in the sun. I did have some dye bleed onto the neck of a couple of shirts due to sweat that week, but it all washed out, again using detergent and oxygen bleach. I would not count on dye washing out of fabric, and I think I was lucky in this regard, but it's worth noting that I didn't have a problem with minor amounts of dye washing out of clothes when treated quickly, and this only happened that first week of having it dyed. It lasted about 2.5 months between when I first dyed it and when it had faded back to blonde (almost) entirely. It did not fade evenly. Personally, I did not mind this, and I liked the pink/blonde look. By my rough estimates, my hair was "completely pink" for 4 weeks and "mostly pink/some blonde" between weeks 4 and 7. It faded more rapidly after that, washing out each time I washed my hair, and I decided to redye my hair a different color after 13 weeks, at which point there were still a few pink streaks but my hair was mostly back to the bleached shade. I had a similar experience with purple rain (now discontinued) in terms of vibrancy and how long it lasted. After the virgin pink I tried sunset orange color and it's far surpassed the others in terms of duration. I am going on 4 months with sunset orange and it's still even and obvious. I have maintained the same hair care routine with the orange that I did with the pink, and the only difference that I can think of is that my hair was pink during the summer and orange during the fall/winter. Unsure if the season had an effect or if the orange is just longer-lasting. Either way, I was pleased with my experience with virgin pink and would purchase again. I would recommend this brand and color.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long does it last?**
A: The fading of Arctic Fox hair colors varies from person to person and from color to color. In general, colors fades faster with EXCESSIVE exposure to sunlight, Frequent shampooing especially using Deep Cleansing or anti dandruff shampoos, use of alcohol base hairspray, gel or other hair products, etc... Darker colors tend to last longer than the lighter Arctic Mist, but all colors could last up to 30 - 40 washes... TIP: apply the color to hair and blow dry hair for 10 to 15 min. for Vibrant and Lasting color! Hope this helped...

**Q: Does this wash out over time?**
A: After a few months, but probably not completely. The parts of your hair that are exposed to the sun are the most likely to fade out, while the under side of your hair will stay. Mix vitamin c powder with a dandruff shampoo to get remaining color out. Leave it in for 30-45 mins. You can repeat this as many times as you wish, it’s not damaging to your hair.

**Q: Does this hairdye wash out over time?**
A: I used it on my 9yo aand it lasted a really long time. It eventually fade, but shoul nice looking. I had Splat recommended to me, but it would run EVERY TIME I washed my hair. Rhodes does NOT do that

**Q: Is this dye ready to use or do you need to add developer?**
A: Hi There,This dye is 100% ready to use :)If you have any other questions please let us know.Have a great day,JessiDoctored Locks Team

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Purple AF for the win
*by A***A on September 26, 2026*

Why get rid of grays with "natural" color when you can do something fun? After reading some reviews of semi-permanent color, I decided to go with Arctic Fox. I wanted purple so of course Purple AF was the obvious choice. My hair is what most people would call just black; it's not. Black to me is like black black like jet black, Sharpie black, you get it. Mine is like a REALLY dark brown with natural highlights. I didn't bleach it so most of my hair just got tinted but the grays are well Purple AF. The collage picture is before (top) and after (bottom) in poor bathroom lighting. The second is outside in the sunlight and the purple really pops. Absolutely no issue with coverage and it went on so smoothly. If you're not familiar with the product, it's a thick gel. I used a cheap kit that came with a brush, dye bowl, 2 alligator clips, and bought some gloves at Dollar Tree. Oh and a disposable shower cap from a hotel lol. Most DIY users don't even bother with the bowl or brush but it does help with even color distribution. Gloves are a must. This dye will stain your skin (rubbing alcohol takes it right off though). Also highly recommend lining your tub with trash bags or rinsing in a stainless steel sink. Wash and COMPLETELY dry your hair before dyeing. DO NOT USE CONDITIONER!!! If possible, wash/dry the night before and then dye in the morning. Prevent skin staining with lotion, conditioner, or petroleum jelly. Divide your hair into 4 sections. You know, 2 on the top aligned with your part and then 2 on the bottom. Start with the bottom sections at the ends. Do all your roots last for even coloring. The heat from your scalp will set the roots faster if you start there. Work your way through the bottom sections and then the top. When you're done with the dye, cover with a shower cap and go about your day. The bottle says at least 30 minutes. You can leave it on for up to 2 hours. Honestly, you can leave it on longer but it won't really make any difference after 2. You can also use a blow dryer to heat it for 10-15 minutes in the shower cap. I let mine set for 2 hours since my hair is dark. Rinse with COLD WATER. Some people said it took an hour for the water to run clean. These are also the people who only let it set for 30 minutes and said the color didn't pop. It only took me about 5 minutes. You don't need to condition your hair. This dye has conditioner added to the formula. It made my hair so soft, shiny, and smooth. It also smells great. Like grape. Do different colors smell like the color they are? I'll have to find out. My scalp of course was purple after and still a little purple after the first wash. Oh make sure to wash your hair with cold water the first few times. Just take your usual shower but throw a shower cap on, then wash/condition it separately with cold water. I got a pack of 30 shower caps at Target for like $3. There was no dye transfer on my pillowcase or clothes after rinsing the first time. I'm honestly not sure why so many people had that happen. Arctic Fox, you have a new fan.
