It just added to the authenticity of the textured brick. Warning: One thing I didn't realize is that there is a "shadow" printed on what's supposed to be the underside of the bricks which gives it a more realistic look. I hung all but 1 column of contact paper "upside down" without realizing until a friend pointed out the shadows were on top of the bricks. Instead carefully remove it and reapply if it isn't correct because once stretched, you will find it impossible to remove the air bubbles trapped in the folds.
