## Description

magicJackTM Plus can be used with or without a computer - it’s the customer’s choice. Each magicJackTM Plus comes with an Ethernet (internet) cable and a Power Adapter. You can, of course, still directly plug the magicJackTM Plus into a computer’s USB port. A USB extension cord is included with each magicJackTM Plus. This option is especially useful or individuals who travel with their magicJackTM Plus. In addition to offering free local and long distance phone service throughout the United States and Canada (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) that will stay on at all times, customer’s existing phone numbers can now be transferred or “ported” to their magicJackTM Plus. Please note that there is a $19.95 charge to transfer/port a phone number and it’s $9.95 per year thereafter. Porting is only available in the U.S. only for now. Of course, each magicJackTM Plus includes a free new phone number so customers who do not wish to transfer or port their existing phone number may select a new one. magicJackTM Plus, like magicJackTM, includes free: Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Caller ID, Call Forwarding, Directory Assistance and emergency 911service.

Review: Magic Jack Plus - It took longer than I expected to have desertcart deliver. Magic Jack Plus is better than the regular Magic Jack. Maybe because it goes in the router and not the computer but call sound is great. People couldn't tell I was not on my landline. I already had a MJ and this one would replace it. I tested it for nearly 2 weeks and it always had a dial tone and always rang when I called it anytime of the day or night. I was testing it before having my home land line phone ported over. Porting was easy, you go to your MJP account and give the number to be ported and it is checked to see if it can be ported...mine was an ATT number. Then you have to pay the $20 before they will start the port process. MJP said it would take up to 10 business days ..well mine was ported in one business day. They recommend you check with your carrier to make sure your account with previous carrier is cancelled. So I did. I had internet with ATT also so I got Charter cable before all this and I'm saving $40 a month and have at least 5 times the speed over ATT with home phone. It's been over a week since the phone porting but I'm satisfied I made the right choice. Note that for renewal you have to pay an extra $10 to keep your ported number. Hmm but now MJ has taken it upon itself to assume I will renew my old MJ by sending me an einvoice that I'm guessing they think they will charge my CC. I don't appreciate that as I did not renew the old MJ...why would I with the MJP. If they charge the CC I will have the charge removed as I did not authorize it. I guess that will be another story. UPDATE Sept. 2013 I've had the Magic Jack Plus working for over a year now. It replaced my old ATT service. My MJ bill is now right around $40 for THE YEAR! This includes the $10 annual fee to have my old number ported. BEST thing I ever did. MJP runs off your router and just plug the out line into your phone jack (I would unplug the inline from outside first) and all jacks work. I updated the phones to a Panasonic TG-KX7621 system with 3 handsets. This system has bluetooth so cell phones will ring through it and with the contact lists from the cell phones passed over to the Panasonic system, you have personalized caller ID. Occasionally the MJP will drop a call but that is usually because a computer is up with too many windows open. Also, call time is usually limited to 90 minutes then the call is dropped and you just have to call the person again but I have seen the minutes last longer. It is because the MJP thinks the phone is off the hook. Overall this has been the best thing and my goal was to beat the phone company (ATT). I was sick and tired of paying all the extra taxes with ATT that was nearly half the bill and with the MJP I basically get the same thing and FREE LONG DISTANCE. It is truly a win and I can't say enough good things about the MJP.
Review: Great Value For Money... Except for one small thing! - This has proven to be more reliable than I expected it would be. I use it quite often sometimes everyday and each use is usually for calls lasting more than half hr. I've had to reset it by unplugging it every once in a while but it's usually a rock solid performer in terms of call quality and reliability. I think the limiting factor in terms of user experience is not the device itself but your internet connection. That said I only have a 10 Megabit connection which isn't much bandwidth although my connection is as solid as a rock and almost never dips below the 10 meg marker on speedtest.net The only issue I had is the wall outlet to USB adapter died after 8 months which I didn't mind too much because I always hated how far it made everything stick out from the wall. Replaced it with an extra usb wall adapter that came with a mobile phone or camera that i had lying around and it gives the whole thing a more sleek appearance as it doesn't stick out from the front but plugs in at the bottom of the device and stays close to the wall now. If you have such an adapter laying around your house i'd recommend using it instead of the one that comes with the magic jack straight away.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it work everywhere? Any way to find out areas that it doesn't work?**
A: It works anywhere there is high-speed internet access but does not work with dial-up. The quality of the connection is affected by the speed so it may not be great if the internet speed is at the lower end of high speed internet. The call quality is also affected by the type of phone you're using. It works fine with a corded phone and with higher frequency cordless phones like DECT 6.0 but older, low frequency phones don't work very well with it. It also works with multiple-handset phones - the base phone has to be connected to the Magic Jack device obviously. If you are calling internationally Magic Jack charges an extra fee for that service.

**Q: Can I use this with Verizon Fios?**
A: I bought one of this and I pluged it with the laptop and then the phone or directly with the router and then the phone, it Works great. You can also download the application for mobile phone and Works great also so I supose that it must work with verizon because magic Jack connects to the internet.

**Q: Can I have more thanone phone number in use with magicjack?**
A: Each magicjack device can only have 1 phone number associated with it, I believe.
There is also an option to port a number to your magicjack; not sure if that adds a 2nd phone number to your device or replaces the first.
But you may be able to buy multiple magicjack devices for multiple different phone numbers in the same household.

**Q: can i choose my own telephone number**
A: the Magic Jack device comes with an assigned number. You can "port" your existing phone number to it. CAUTION: they charged me $21 to port it in and, since the device didn't work, they then charged me $32 to port it out to another carrier. I know of NO OTHER carrier that charges for this. SOME MORE CAUTION: if you choose not to pay for five years up front (I think THAT was the condition, although I no longer remember WHICH trick they tried), they "can't guarantee" that your number (assigned or ported) won't change yearly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Replaced my original Magic Jack
*by D***E on July 13, 2012*

Came in fast and I saved about 12 bucks ordering here than from MJ online (4.5% tax and MJ shipping came to 81 bucks, but ordering here no shipping or tax.) I had the old Magic Jack (MJ) and loved it but had to leave my computer on all the time. Initially I was not going to get the new plusit and lose my subscription for 5 years I bought but on setup I selected replace an existing one and got all my time (but not the free year it came with but that is minor compared to losing my remaining three years on the original one. I run it on a cable modem with a Linksys e3000 dual band router. I had a duh moment too. I used to hate the screen popping up on my computer when i was typing and could not wait to get it off screen. Plugged in the caller ID comes up if the caller is in the MJ contacts but when used this way it is exactly like a landline in that I only see caller ID on folks programmed into the phone set I use. I was so programmed for seeing all calls that I almost regretted switching. It took me all of one day to like it better than the distractions. If you use the MJ contact list and call from your computer a lot, you can still do that by disconnecting the device from the power and the Ethernet to the router and plug it in directly like the original. Although you then have to have the computer on so why upgrade? For those who would like cheap easy and cheap phone service that works as well as a wired phone for a home set and no minutes to buy, as long as you connect to the Internet at home via a cable modem. DSL requires a phone line so seems a waste there. But I have had 10 Mbs cable high speed and now the minimum 15 Mbs and MJ works perfectly for less than 2 bucks a month after the first year. (The first year includes the price of the MJ hardware one time only.) I can only comment on using it with average cable Internet, not DSL. MJ does not work on dial up, and regardless of the connection type, even on very fast cable, don't expect faxes to go through I do not care who tells you differently. Great buy here! Thanks Amazon once again!
