It strips away products that weigh the hair down & really cleans scalp... it may strip color?? Unsure if this company has a shampoo specially for colored hair. However, my scalp is oily and I need to make sure it is cleaned thoroughly so I need a clarifying shampoo. I decided to use this one because I am a huge fan of their moisture benefits shampoo. The first time I used this, it did dry my hair out very badly but my scalp was amazingly cleaned and less irritated so it was a win-lose situation. Next time I used it I decided to only wash my scalp letting the residual rinse off clean my hair instead of actually applying the shampoo directly to my hair and it helped with the dryness a lot. The next time I used it I did a hot oil treatment prior to shampooing along with the previous method and my hair no longer came out dry like the desert. So if you are having issues with this product drying out your hair but you need a super clean scalp, try doing a hot oil treatment prior to shampooing and do not scrub your hair with the shampoo. I gave this 4/5 stars because even after all my tweaks it is still a little drying, although not as bad, and it also does not have the slip I am use to with the moisture benefits shampoo. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this. If you're thrifty yet picky like me, break down your price per oz and really you're money ahead (I've researched and sampled hundreds of products over the last 20 years and found most "cheap" products don't do you any favors). As a curly girl with fine, very oily hair, I love that I can wash my hair once or twice a week and never have an itchy scalp, and my curls are very happy. As all of us with curls know, never scrimp on moisture. I follow with the moisture balancing conditioner as well as a deep conditioner at least every other week (more during winter as I live in MN). I feel everyone focuses on how hair styles after cleansing, but if you cleanse/condition right, styling shouldn't be an issue. It took me so long to find something I even wanted to try because I never found anything saying that a product did a good job at what it IS SUPPOSED TO DO. Everyone wants a cleanser that makes your hair easier to style. Cleanser is meant to clean your scalp/hair and make them happy, not to style your tresses. You have other great products for that. Stop overthinking your cleanse. I'm currently only using it 1x a week (as most people do with clarifying shampoos to remove oil and buildup). I may or may not increase it to every 4 or 5 days but the immediate relief is great. Word of advice, don't add excess oil to your hair and scalp or any sort of powders like gotu kola, Cinnamon, whatever. If you use peppermint oil just add a few drops to your cowash.Direct contact with oils and other products is bad because you'll get too oily and itchy. It's best to add small amounts to things like conditioner or cowash.Using this + my normal conditioner (NYC Curls) left it soft and light. Just remember to not overdo it with products. It's really easy to overdo it.
