## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do all turntables require a preamp**
A: David, depends, if you are plugging into an amplifier/receiver w/o a phono preamp then the answer is yes. If the amp does not have a specific phono plug in then the answer is yes, you will need a preamp. Also, my turntable is from 1978 and does not have a built in preamp, I hope this helps.

**Q: i need to connect my turntable to speakers can I use this to do it?**
A: A PREamp is just that, it raises the signal coming from a device like your turntable. You still need a main AMP to connect the preamp to. The main AMP connects to the speakers. If you have powered speakers like computer speakers or a sound bar you would connect this to the turntable and the powered speakers or sound bar as they have an amp in them. If they are plain old speakers you need a main amp which will probably have a preamp in it for turntables. You would need to read the specs.

**Q: I plan on connecting the TT and CD player to the pre-amp and the out to the CD receiver jacks. Would the aux path be amplified or just pass-through?**
A: The AUX is an isolated line level pass through. The pre-amp is only connected to TT to raise the weak phono cartridge signal to a line level signal. This set-up reduces the number of inputs required on your reciever or power amp since many do not offer a phono input anymore.

**Q: What if my reciever has a phono conection, would I still need a preamp.**
A: You should not need a pre-amp if you have a PHONO input on your receiver. That input is usually amped to RIAA specs and will play your signal from your magnetic cartridge. If you find that the sound output from your turntable is very low, you will need a pre-amp. If your turntable has one built-in, turn it on. Otherwise just buy a stand alone pre-amp and hook your turntable into it and then the pre-amp into your receiver.

Was hesitant but it works great!

*by A***X on Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2015*

I run my turntable through my PA speaker and I recently got a new technics record player. Originally i had to turn the volume to max on my PA (that usually can top drums volume). I was hesitant to buy this because of the price and if it would serve the purpose i needed but it definitely worked! I have the volume level on the pre-amp at 6 or 7 and my PA volume at half way it already sounds 10x louder and with the ground knob on the pre-amp the quality isnt distorted at all! If you're serious about have a good record player set up this is the best pre-amp!

Perfect budget item to upgrade older equipment

*by D***I on Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2021*

So far, this preamp has been perfect for what I purchased it for. I have a later 1980s Sony turntable that sounds great but needs amplification to line level that I wanted to hook up to a late 1990s Aiwa bookshelf stereo system that also sounds good, but doesn't have a built in phono preamp, and I also wanted my bluetooth reciever to be connected to the system without having to plug in/unplug wires everytime I want to switch from record player to bluetooth. This item boosts the sound as loud as I would ever need for this system with volume to spare, and it maintains the sound fidelity from the record player. With the push of a button, I can switch to my bluetooth reciever on the aux input. A bonus of the preamp unit is the output level volume knob. The volume nob on my bookshelf stereo is touchy, so I control it from the preamp. I almost ave it 4/5 stars because this preamp unit is a few years old so it doesn't have some of the newst features on the current preamps (remote controls and whatnot), but it is still a solid unit at a reasonable price. This was a great item to upgrade my secondary stereo (but my personal main music area) until I invest in a completely new, more high end system, and since the stereo I'm using only has one input (RCA), this let's me switch between two external components without swapping plugs back and forth. This was more than worth the price I paid for the new life my music room's record player and stereo have gained. This is a perfect preamp for people who enjoy their older record players.

Good For Transferral Of Vinyl And Cassettes To CD

*by C***T on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2017*

I transfer a lot of vinyl and/or cassettes to CD and I was looking to replace a less expensive Pyle preamp as I felt the "humming" that accompanied its use was perhaps a little more intrusive on the recordings than I would like. I have had this Tec preamp for a few weeks and it does give off a hum during the recording process but it does seem a little less intrusive than the previous preamp I was using. This unit is very simple to set up and operate with one caveat; there is no on/off button or switch which initially proved inconvenient as I had to rearrange my audio recording set up in my man cave to accommodate having to have direct access to my power strip to plug this unit in and unplug it after use. When transferring vinyl or cassettes the volume knob on the unit will have to be turned up to pretty much full blast but other than that it is a small unit that does its job well. The lack of power on/off switch made me have to give it four rather than five stars.
