The beveling is on the underside. Review: The face of the stone is completely flat - it does NOT look like the picture, as it is not faceted on the face, as the picture would lead you to believe. The face of the stone also sits slightly below the level of the setting. The metal portion of the ring is beautiful, as pictured. It is a gift for my son, whose birthstone is amethyst and who loves the color purple. I think he will like it and will wear it, as he is 12 years old and may not notice that there are no facets in the face of the stone.
