AcuRite13020 Intelli-Time Projection Alarm Clock with Temperature and USB Charging , Black

We've had a projection clock for about 8 years or so. We finally got tired of pulling out the manual on how to correct the time. We only wanted something that had a projection on the ceiling but would also have the time automatically stay updated, including DST. So, after reviewing the dozens that were out there with around 4 stars and higher (and large qty of reviews), we decided to get this one. We read of various issues like out-of-focus projection but we didn't experience this as I tested it in our high 12-foot vs our 9 ft ceilings vs a wall 8 ft away. All were fine. We heard of issues with the setup of the remote temperature but I had zero issues. For ours, it had a small mounting hole on the back for hanging, so I used a machine screw and mounted it to hang the remote on our back yard water hose 4x4 post. The bedroom is about 20 feet away and it stays wirelessly connected easily. I added the batteries, ensured the channel ('A') matched the channel setting ('A') on the clock so they could connect remotely. All worked fine; nothing to set. And, when I plugged in the clock, the date and time both self-set correctly and immediately. The temperature aspect was a bonus for us and it simply worked and stays updated. I set a recurring calendar reminder (Google calendar) to email me to change the batteries once a year (to start with, as I'm unsure how often it will be truly needed).Now, we don't use the alarm portions of clocks, to be fair. So, if we ever need to, I'll need to pull out the manual for that. I did look it over briefly (online before purchasing) and was aware that it wasn't intuitive so, there is that aspect that I can understand others not finding it enjoyable. We use our cell phones or Alexa to wake us. Much easier to set.We loved the brightness adjustment feature to cut it down lower. We don't utilize the moon phases feature but it seemed to work fine.We narrowed our search down easily to this clock and one other. There was another one that rotated the projection through the time and the temps but I was reading you couldn't use it just for showing the time or turning off the rotation so, between the two different companies, we ultimately chose this one and have been very happy. The only other clocks with projection that we found above 4 stars had very few reviews (less than 3 dozen) and, after reading the reviews, felt that it was questionable as far as validation goes. Clocks: I have had many over the years. I used to travel 9 months of the year and watched as one clock after another failed in one way or another. Pros: All adjustments work well. The clock is visible from wider angles than most clocks, the temperature reading is accurate... I have several other devices and it is exactly as the other devices... all the time, it is very easy to use: One of my complaints about clocks is their complexity when groggy as one often is going to bed or rising. This clock is simple to turn off the alarm and to turn the alarm back on, or to set the alarm. The on off lever is easy to manipulate, the snooze is great. The clock is sturdy. I use the projection for temperature rather than time, which works well for me. The clock has a sturdy feel to it and has outdoor/indoor temp, something of real value to me, as well as time, alarm, moon stages. The alarm is so very easy to set.Cons: I gave this 5 stars as although there are drawbacks, these drawbacks are minor inconveniences that I believe might even make the clock more expensive and harder to use: The alarm is loud... and you can't adjust it. The clock is bright, and the dim is not dim enough. You can't rotate the projected image... you have to rotate the clock. The face of the clock with numbers, is a bit small for reading time/temp from across the room. You can't adjust the length of the snooze alarm. All of these things are minor and incidental to the design of the clock.Note: This review was written after one month use. In two or three years one should revisit this as time... judges clocks as much as anything.

Overall a nice clock. It has a lot of nice features - especially both indoor and outdoor temp display. I have the outdoor sensor about 60 feet away and it reads it no problem. There was no problem syncing the outdoor sensor to the clock. It was very easy to set up and adjusted to the DST change on its own. It has the USB power charge for cell phone/Kindle but you do need your own USB power cord. If you install batteries it doesn't matter if the power goes out.Things I don't like:Its pretty large and bulky.The alarm is VERY loud and continues blaring for 20 minutes straight if you don't shut it off. My Oregon Scientific alarm started soft and built up the sound level and then shut off after a minute or two. I sometimes get up before the alarm goes off and go into another room to play on the computer or read. This alarm is so noisy I HAVE to go back to the bedroom and shut it off. If your partner likes to get up later than you the noise level will probably be a problem. If you have trouble waking and sleep through alarms or like to be startled awake this is the clock for you.The display illumination on the face of the clock is pretty bright and though light doesn't usually bother me this could be a problem for you. The brightness is somewhat adjustable. The clock display is hard to read from an angle, so you have to have it facing you square on.The ceiling display has either time or indoor or outdoor temps. You have to choose one.The ceiling display projection adjustment only goes up and down (ie, ceiling to wall). If you want to rotate it so the time is not sideways on the ceiling you have to rotate the whole clock. My brain has trouble processing/reading sideways images. For the ceiling display to read "correctly" for me I would have to turn the clock to face the wall at the head of my bed. I sleep on the left side with the clock to my left.I find the ceiling display numbers to be a little skinny, lacking definition and somewhat hard to read. It's not the size of the numbers which is fine, it's more that they lack a certain definition. I have to concentrate on them for them to make sense to me and I don't want to have to wake up enough to concentrate at 3:00 in the morning. I'm not explaining that well - sorry. I liked the ceiling display on my Oregon Scientific better. They definitely made up the graphics of the ceiling display in the sample photo.It does not sync to Atomic clock.
