Photo of product says 4way powered NOAA WEATHER ALERT. Please exp[ain.** A: It has a switch on it for NOAA weather alerts. The 4-way power is this: it has a handle you can turn to charge it, that's 1; it has a solar panel for charging, that's 2; it has a lithium ion (or something) battery that you can plug into the wall to charge, that's 3; and you can also put 3 AA batteries in it to power it, that's 4. 4-ways to charge it. I liked this radio, but wish I had bought the digital one for a few bucks more. **Q: If the internal rechargeable batteries are dead and there are no back-up batteries installed will the radio work on solar power only?** A: I have not tried this yet. When I cranked it for a minute (after batteries were dead) and then left it in the sun all afternoon it ran for only 15 minutes (whereas when the battery is fully charged it will go for 6 hours). Now it's possible that this "trickle charging" from the sun will allow it to play the radio all day. (I don't think it would charge the batteries for more than a few minutes of night use, however, if the radio were on while it was operating in the sun on solar power. I wish I'd checked out that possibility...if I get to it I will come back and give an update. **Q: If you insert AA batteries, does it override rechargeable batt., or can you switch between? Or do you remove the Nimh pack to make room for AA?** A: The optional AA batteries are in addition to the included rechargeable battery. Power selector switch on front allows separate choice of "Batt" (i.e. AA cells), or "Crank/Solar" (which are the two ways of charging up the rechargeable battery). Includes old school pull out radio antenna....solar charging panel attached. little flashlight thingee. Includes a short charging cord;;USB a to c plug. I know I can power it from my 1) ECOFLO solar generator--by usb, 2) my laptop--by usb, 3) AC WALL by usb (no adapter incl)...but charging cord works, 4) its own solar panel (internal to unit)--I bet that would take awhile, 5) the turn crank dyno (internal to unit) charger on side of unit, 6) it's own LIPO battery (main power source), and 7) AA cell batteries you can purchase and install. Freq's....AM/FM/SW/noaa weather (multi-channel)....Flashlight--yes it has one built in. And yes you can use this as a power source for your phone using USB A and USB C... to keep your cell phone working in a pinch. I just got it, I do not know how long it will last. The power goes out at least 2 or 3 times every winter, sometimes more, where I live, because of storms and high winds. So having a dependable radio makes a big difference when you're waiting for the power to come back on, which can take quite a while.The size is just right, so it's compact and easy to carry and store, and the controls are easy to use. And, probably the best part is the many ways this radio can be charged up, so you're never in a situation where it can't be powered up and used. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good features, not cheap design *by on Reviewed in the United States September 29, 2018* We got this for our earthquake go-bag. Nice features: You can power it from a wall plug, regular batteries, via USB link to computer, a solar panel or the rechargeable battery. We love that it will work and recharge without ANY power source around. You could be in a cave underground and this will give you light (not sure about radio, because well let's face it ... you're in a CAVE). But LIGHT ... you really need that. True, it's not a spotlight ... but the reading lamp is excellent, especially if you need to sit down and read a map. VERY IMPORTANT: You can keep your mobile phone powered up with the Kaito by USB link. That to me is huge, since when you've got to run ... you are definitely taking your phone with you ... but if the mobilephone battery conks out after a day or two, you're on a raft in the ocean with no gas. But the Kaito gives you confidence your phone will still work one, two, three or 300 days after the disaster. And this is cool: You can run the Kaito Voyager off an external battery, and when THAT battery conks, you can use the Voyager to RECHARGE the same external battery! Excellent! It's like some cool yin-yang symbiosis. About the quality: We like that this is NOT a cheap design ... the feel is solid and tight. NICE that there's a tight-fitting rubber cap to cover the usb, ac adaptor and headphone jacks. Can't believe some of these radios have no strap, but the Kaito does ... that's good, because what if it can't fit in the backpack? You can TIE it to the backpack using the strap. This is our first "disaster" radio, but on the whole we really like the quality design and features and would recommend it to others. P.S.
