The low setting provides enough light to leave on in a dark corner but is not bright enough for me to read by. The medium and high settings are great for reading. This light is superior to any other lights, even previous OttLites I have had. It evenly bathes the entire area with a wonderful, soothing light! The USB plug in the base is very handy but I have no use for the different colored lights in the base. I hesitated before deciding to order this lamp because I wondered if the hinges might become loose but a small tool was included to tighten or loosen them, if needed.
