Since your wall is 81 square feet (9 * 9) / 7.3 = 11.10 boxes. Taking into account 3/8" mortar joints (unless you're stacking the bricks with no joints), 11 boxes will be fine. Each box contains about 50 bricks, so you'll be placing roughly 550 bricks.As an added bit of advice, cut out several 8' lengths of 3/8" x 3/4" of poplar boards to act as horizontal spacers between rows and then cut out a few more of the 3/8" x 3/4" lengths, but cut them into 1.5" lengths blocks to use as vertical spacers between bricks. This way, you'll have even joints throughout without having to measure or use strings. Make sure to use a level to make sure all rows are relatively level (the wall should look slightly rough as brick walls usually look). Don't worry about perfection because the mortar joints will take care of slight errors and make the wall look more authentic. Have fun and enjoy your work! -Derrick **Q: what do use to mortar the joints, is there something here on amazon i can order at the same time? premixed cement or concrete maybe?** A: I tried Type S mortar and it didn't turn out as I wanted; the head and bed joints were too smooth and kinda fake looking. For the next wall I did, I used Keracolor S- Sanded Grout from Mapei (Lowe's) and it worked great! They come in various colors so no need to paint or mix in additives and you can get them in 10lb., 25lb. 50lb. bags depending on how much you need. I wanted that gritty feel instead of the smooth mortar feel. Further, I used a grout bag (makes tuckpointing so much easier and far less messy, no spills or drips) and I had complete control over both vertical and horizontal joints. I kinda had fun filling those joints on a 8 x 17' wall and did it in far less time than using a hawk and tuckpointing tool. I'm sure pros can tuckpoint like that in no time, but the grout bag worked great and was much faster for me.Of course, the walls I did were interior walls, but the Mapei grout works even in swimming pools, so I don't think wind and rain will be a factor as long a you fill those joints adequately. The Old Mill Brick folks must have surely considered how some shippers ignore "fragile" labels on packages. Old Mill Brick packs them neatly and securely with 1" EPS so that no bricks are broken. Of 12 boxes (600 bricks), only two bricks were broken, so that's a good testament to their packaging methods.Next, there is really no need to buy some specialized duty wet (tile) saw setup or anything. I cut these bricks very easily with a 4 1/2 grinder with a diamond blade. Just know that it produces lots of dust so wear a mask and try to do it outside!!I used tile mastic on 34 of the 36 rows (8 x 11 wall) and then Loctite construction adhesive on the last two rows; both worked well. I also used a 1/2" Durock cement board, though Old Mill told me I could have just as easily eliminated the cement board and applied the mastic directly to plywood sheathing or drywall. Still, I believe the cement board provide better adhesion assurance and will be better for mortar adhesion as well.It's a very good product and looks great; it really updates a room and it kinda makes the room look larger. However, depending on the size of the wall, it's a tedious job, so have patience; neatly placing 600 bricks (3/8" vertical and horizontal joints) isn't a quick job; if doing the job alone, give yourself a couple of days, then wait another 2-3 days to mortar the joints. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plan for breakage, *by M***N on August 28, 2020* Received on time, and several boxes all arrived together. Price was fair minus the breakage rate, 20% of each box was broken. Plan for it and you will be happy with the result. Careful on the selection of adhesives you use.
