I generally run it all day on low or medium to keep some air moving and to provide a good white-noise background. Medium is still a little much for a phone call without a noise-canceling headset. I couldn't see this being of any real use in a room that couldn't be closed off or one that is any larger than 150 sqft. There is also no way to tell if the UV bulb needs to be replaced. Removing the filter and wedging the safety switches allowed me to see that it was still working but that is less than ideal. Replacement filters were easy to find on desertcart, GermGardian "E" type, and installed without any trouble. I would note that air does not blow uniformly out of the front of the filter. It tends to blow most strongly between 30 and 80 degrees to the left of the centerline when looking at the front of the unit. With almost no flow coming out to the right of the centerline. This happens to work well for the counterclockwise airflow in my office but should be considered based on your intended location. Review: game changer for allergies! - Just, wow! I had no complaints except I couldn't tell if it was actually working... This product though from Germ Guardian is another level! It's very simple to operate with just one button (the ionizer) and a click-wheel to get through the different fan settings (fan speed). You can immediately SMELL this thing is working, and it's working big time! I have never encountered such a well made air purifier before. Is something supposed to light up when the UV is on?** A: UV is on when the button is in, off when it's out. When it's on there's a light that's kinda hard to see through the front inside. **Q: what is the cfm of air movement, and what range or distance.** A: I do not know the CFM rating on this unit, but I bought 2 others, of supposedly 'better quality' and paid thru the nose for them both (over $400), but this GermGauardian unit out performs both of the others put together. This is the unit to get, if you ask me. I love it! We've had it for over 1 year I think and it is still doing a great job. One of the others absorbs the smells of the room until I turn the unit on, then it distributes the smell out into the room. But the GermGuardian kills the smells. The filter is easily cleaned and durable. I only wish I had invested in another one. Now I'm stuck with these two others, trying to beat the smells in my wife's nursing home room which she must share with a bed-ridden cancer victim. This unit seems to be powerful enough to handle about 12' x 14'. I'd by another one and recommend it to anyone. **Q: How is the noise level after a month or two of using it?** A: I noticed it seem loud after about 5 months of years and I followed the directions perfectly cleaning the filter by vacuuming it every three to four weeks. At the 6 or 7th month I noticed I couldn't tell the difference between low medium or high and it seemed loud. I realized I needed to change the filter and when I put a new filter in it got much quieter. So my conclusion is that if your filter is dirty it's going to sound loud and one of the way she'll know besides the noise is that the filter itself will get heavy or heavier than a brand new one.
