The bold Harlem Theatre Collection represents the courageous women of an era who paved the way for future generations to freely and creatively express themselves. During the Harlem Renaissance era, patrons of the arts like Madam Lavinia would often commission artists to showcase their latest work. Up-and-coming artist Selma DuPar James, was selected to hold her first solo exhibition in the Harlem Theatre salon.

4th Time’s the Charm
First off I love the Selma sculpt from Mattel. Like love, love, love it. I also love the Roaring 20s. You would think that the combination of these two things would be a doll collector’s dream. Well you’d be wrong, because Mattel was conveniently left out of the equation. Seriously Mattel why are you like this? The quality control is terrible on most of their dolls, this one being no exception. Maybe like clothes, these are the irregular leftovers.I bought 4 of these dolls for roughly $37 a piece and found just one that was acceptable. I didn’t snag a picture of the one I returned first, but the issues were the same as the other two: botched bangs/bob haircuts and missing or just straight messed up facial screenings. The wonk eye is a real threat to doll collecting. When these dolls originally sold for $85 they should have been perfect (or at least somewhat close to symmetrical). The one I kept is banging however. She’s amazing. So, if you’d like to sift through these Selma DuPar James dolls like you’re at a virtual Tuesday Morning, then may the odds be ever in your favor.

Disappointed
Display Box was in terrible shape. There’s no way I can display the doll inside the box.

The doll is beautiful but the pacmage is beat up.
This was suppose to be a gift for my little cousin Birthday. I can't give this to her in a b eat up box. I'm so disappointed. It look like I found It in the back of my closet.

Not quite what was expected
Box has some wear and tear plus the contents of box were all over the place.

Selma DuPar James Doll
Absolutely beautiful! She looks like my good friend Donna! The box was not damaged as other reviewers have reported. Selma was in good condition. I had to comb out her hair because the hair spray made it look too stiff. Would have loved her bangs to be longer, but the overall presentation is very satisfactory. She is 3rd in the Harlem Theatre Series. I am so glad I got the chance to get her.

No box but pretty doll
I really liked this doll to finish my Harlem girls collection but it just came in tissue paper without a box. Which I feel sticks out more than my others

Nice Doll.
I had seen this doll for some time. I wasn't going to get her because basically I don't by dolls to collect. I use them for storytelling in my photos. I bought the Ella Fitsgerald doll for a singer and decided I could use this doll for the same purpose. Although she is an artist she can be used for many things. Her clothes are classic and beautiful, very sophisticated. She comes with a portrait she painted. Which is pretty awesome. I got her for a decent price as well which always helps..
