Review: Makes me Happy :) - I bought this lens to replace my kit lens. I had accumulated variety of lenses. I did not think I would really need the original kit lens, so I gave it away. I found that the range on that kit lens was desirable for many shooting situations plus it was short and compact (hmm Quandary). The old kit lens was not a good close focus lens. Also, using a lens hood caused vignetting at 18mm. I always had to back it off a touch. This new version really lets you focus down to about 6 inches. Also, there is no problem with the vignette affect at the widest focal length. So it’s Win Win. So now I can travel light with confidence. I keep it mostly on my D5100 for light casual shooting but occasionally use it on my D300s and my D600 in DX mode. I found it a great general purpose lens on all. Small (nice), Light (nice), VR (nice). When you close the lens (all the way down) it locks. You have to unlock and set the focal length before you shoot. I must say it took me a while to get use to this (my cameras would report no lens attached) duh! Once I did I even loved that. My results are good. I love it. I would love to have a full frame version that maintained this size and weight. I did buy this lens off the used list so I saved some money there. I have not gone wrong with the Like New lenses I have bought in the past. A surprise this copy was refurbished and like new. Win again. I recommend getting this lens even if you think you don’t need it. Oh one more comment, this lens extends a little further than the old kit lens. So if you use the on camera flash to when you close focus you may get a shadow you don’t want. To keep it light I tend to use my SB400 instead of the on camera flash. You can bounce it or use a reflector. Hope this helps ya’ll.

Versatile range, lens stabilization, and it even comes with a hood. I wanted him to worry more about taking pictures than trying to zoom with his feet, or switch to other purpose driven lenses in the bag. This is a great lens when you have enough light to stop it down a bit, and you can blur the background because of its close focus ability. He got a lot of cool shots where he was able to focus close on his subject, and put the next focus plain further out. People will talk about the plastic mount, slowish AF, and no weather sealing, but that's why you upgrade to the next level of lens. Nice especially for the low dollars, and gets the job done.

**Q: i received it:made in Thailand.
is it supposed to be Made in Japan??**
A: Both of my genuine Nikon lenses were made in Thailand, the 18-55mm and 70-300mm. I always call Nikonusa.com when I buy a lens or camera.nThey will verify your serial number and give you all the info to ensure that your product is genuine. Link:  http://www.nikonusa.com/en/index.page

**Q: Can this lens take pictures in lower light than the 18-140mm?**
A: Depending on the apeture setting of the lens woud determine if the lens will take pictures in a lower light. For the most part, the larger the zoom area the more light will be permitted into the lens. and as far as this particular lens you can't find better glass for a lens than Nikkor (Nikon) for the price. Unless you want to go into the thousands of dollars for a Hasseelblad (spelling wrong) the glass used for Nikon lenses will give you 1.5 to 2 better stops better for the amount of light produced ot the end of the lens.  Cannon is also better quality but Nikon has always been my choice between the two. One more thing, if you want to wait for a better price you can wait for a refurbished llense. When these lenses get sent back to the factory for a flaw or problem the quality control is actually better than the original one and you end up getting a better lense or at least one equal to a brand new lense. I picked mine up for $76.00 and it has produced extra good portraits in RAW format. To prevent me from giving a lesson on the difference between JPG and RAW formats let me just say that if you take a picture in RAW vs JPG format you will receive a picture that you could blow up 5 times larger without pixilation with RAW and there is NO compression. It is the compression algorithm in digital cameras that ruins great photos. If you use RAW format there is o compression and you get full control of color, saturation, definition and other things that gives you a picture that COULD (if used correctly) a picture that can rival film.  (Never as good but rival). One more thing, you have to down load the software from either Cannon or Nikon to work with your RAW photographs. Just go to the camera site.

**Q: Can the lens be set to infinifty focus ?**
A: No, it can't. There is no DoF scale on the lens.

**Q: Does this work with a d7100**
A: Yes it works perfectly with the af-s lens

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lens works very well for what it is

When traveling I like the versatility of Nikon’s 18-300mm zoom. But for everyday shooting I’d like a lighter, compact medium range zoom. Most medium zooms are still expensive and not much smaller or lighter than my travel zoom. The Nikon 18-55mm, although not a preferred range for me, is very well priced, performs quickly and flawlessly, is definitely small and light, and covers most of my needs.
