I don't know if that answers your question but that's currently what I'm running, to either play the sound from the TV itself (Optical in) or form the Cable Box (HDMI in). **Q: Can bass and treble be adjusted?** A: I have two Harman decks but the one I use most of time does have seperate controls that are shown on the tv. Actually have quite a bit of controls on the screen. And user friendly. While Im typing this review anyway let me add that the units do run hot so small fan in cabinet is helpful. And this brand has always surpassed my expectations mainly due to true clean high power amps, reliability, ease of use **Q: I see that it has 2 optical inouts, but they both read "out". Optical is the only audio out my tv has. Will this still work?** A: I think you're mistaken, they're in the "Digital In" outline, and are "Opt 1" and "Opt 2". It should work fine with your TV. **Q: Does the HDMI signal really sound better then the coaxial digital signal?** A: That is something I can't answer, all i know is is has a Class A sound. I usually use the digital input/output. The sound is, to me, outstanding. Nomatter what speakers I use. It has the closest sound to a "tube" sound I have heard. There is no speakers switch so using headphones is not very practical since they do not shut off the external speakers. Additionally, the OSD can only be displayed via component video which means that you must have both HDMI and component video connected if you want to use the OSD with HDMI.
