The gore can be hard to handle, but what is truly appalling is the behavior of those working in the clinics and how desensitized they have become to the actions they are committing. One account tells the story of a woman who was given an abortion against her will after she decided to back out, and she was literally kicking and screaming before she was sedated. The Walls are Talking gives you a glimpse into one of the most profitable and scandalous corporations in the world, and if you wish to learn of the atrocities that really take place in abortion clinics, then this is a must read. I loved this book to the point that I was able to finish it in a few sittings. The stories are hard to process at times, but I was so curious as to what I would see next that I couldn’t put it down. I was pro-life before, but after reading firsthand what actually takes place, I can never condone abortion. This book clearly supports the preservation of human life and the protection of human dignity, which is something the world is sorely lacking right now. This book is about the stories of former abortion clinic workers and what they witnessed during their time at the clinics. To be honest, I was not excited about reading this book but once I started, I couldn’t stop. I was scared to read it because I heard it was graphic – which it was – but it wasn’t unbearable. In fact, I believe the graphicness of this novel was vital in making it such a good read. Before I read this book, I thought that Planned Parenthood was an organization that helped women get pregnant. I had no idea that it performed abortions and therefore, did not understand why Catholics believed it was so bad. After reading this book, my eyes have been opened to the horribleness that is abortion. Although I was already pro-life before reading, I didn’t feel strongly about it. Now, I do. I’ve already recommended this book to many of my friends (including my boyfriend) because I enjoyed it so much. I think everyone should read this book because you learn so much from it and it opens your eyes to the evils of Planned Parenthood. There are a lot of Catholic Social Teaching principle’s in this book including dignity of the human person, rights and responsibilities, and care for God’s creation. In this book, I identified the dignity of the human person because throughout the story, it talked about how every life is precious and each person has the right to life, especially the unborn. Another Catholic Social Teaching principle I found in this book was rights and responsibilities. In the story, a lot of the women’s reasoning behind getting an abortion was because they weren’t prepared financially or emotionally. I sympathized with their stories but realized that they are responsible for themselves. If they weren’t prepared to take care of a baby, then they shouldn’t be having sex. If they believe they are responsible enough to have sex, then they should also be responsible enough to care for a child. The last Catholic Social Teaching principle I found in this book was to care for God’s creation. In the book, it talks about a woman who saw her aborted baby and realized that it was an actual human person. In that moment, she realized that she was responsible for mutilating God’s creation and guilt overcame her. We are all responsible for taking care of God’s creation. Age, sad experience, and witnesses like Abby Johnson have taught me that loving is the only solution to all sin. C.S. Lewis points out that the best attitude toward another’s sin is to love and forgive and hope for the best for them just exactly as you would if it were yourself who you realized had sinned.
