But that is part of their appeal. However, in this book the disbelief is beyond understanding. She portrays characters that supposedly are current day: 2019, yet have societal attitudes of the 1950s. That Kate would be "humiliated" (repeated over and over) that her daughter would have a child out of wedlock doesn't fly. And the racist comments about "that Puerto Rican girl" are too much to take. Danielle Steele really dropped the ball on this book. ### ⭐ This book for me was a great disappointment *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2019* This book by Danielle Steele was so disappointing. The story was so unrealistic for example... who even cares anymore if a person has a child out of wedlock? I thought for a moment that the book was written in the 1980''s. Another example is when her daughter (who is gay) hides her partner for 7 years....how ridiculous and then to top it off , her daughter and her partner marry and decide on that same day that the daughter was going to have sperm that she obtained from a sperm bank implanted and just out of nowhere,her partner decides (because they have a second syringe,to try to get pregnant also and guess what...they both get pregnant and one is having a boy and one a girl. This is the worst book by Danielle Steele I have every read. Child's Play is a revealing tale of one mother's life. Kate Morgan was widowed nineteen years ago and has singlehandledly raised her three children. She has it in her head that they have to be perfect. She has really set the bar high. Her son is engaged to Amanda who Kate feels would be the perfect wife for him. Not sure if her son agrees with her but she persists. Claire is headstrong, stubborn and very independent. She is also quite dramatic and a spoiled brat. Tammy has a job with a very prestigious fashion house. She has been hiding a secret for a very long time.In the course of less than a year Kate will find out that she really didn't know her children at all. They turn her world upside down. I found that once I started this book I could not put it down.
