Introduce your pet to the stairs by first putting small individual treats on each stair, ever increasing the height of the reward. In a short time, your pet will realize the stairs are sturdy, and safe to climb on.We (and our dog) love these stairs. Our dog recently turned 12, and he started to have to pause and concentrate before jumping some 12 inches above his head height to get on top our bed which is 3 feet high. The eventual long leap down was also a concern to us.I placed the stairs next to, and parallel to the end of our bed to allow for more walking clearance as we have a small bedroom. The stairs are a perfect 18" wide, and very sturdy. Now our 75 pound dog easily climbs the carpeted sturdy stairs and turns left at the top to climb on top the bed (but only when invited to do so).
