I bought these shoes for both my boys and both pairs fit great and are easy enough for my toddlers to put on by themselves and are comfortable enough for almost every activity during the day. Every pair of shoes (play shoes) i have purchased for my boys in the past were peeling from the front by the very next day and you could see a different color coming out which I now always seem to expect, especially since family members who work with preschoolers say its typical. The description doesn't mention it but these light up...which makes my son happy! And of the three different brands/pairs I ordered (TMNT, Planes and Batman) this pair is indisputably the most sturdy, durable and comfortable. Which makes me happy. These are definitely athletic as the soles and lining are thick and protective/absorbent.They are true to size and fit my son perfectly. The quality of the shoes, by far, exceed what I'd expect of a $13 pair of shoes. I honestly wish I'd purchased a second pair, one size larger, because the next size up is no longer available; and, at this price with this type of quality, I'd be hard pressed to find a comparable pair of shoes.I've already recommended these to a friend who has been searching for a pair of light up shoes that can withstand her 3 year old son. I even told her that I'll give her her money back if she doesn't feel she's gotten her money's worth.
