It accordions out to hold my largest lasagna pan or baking sheet pans. **Q: Is this rigid or does it flex easily?** A: It flex’s very easily. Just give it a pull in both directions to get the width you want, set it on the counter, and it’s ready for a hot dish/pan. My daughter has these too and we both love them. **Q: Looks good. Where is it made?** A: I have no idea where it is made. I’ve had it for ten years or so. I have used it a lot because it holds a 9x13 casserole dish or covers a very large pan. **Q: Is it thick enough to keep heat in open area from blistering finish on wood table if placing 500 degree pizza stone on top?** A: Sorry, I have never placed anything that hot on it. Most of the silicone items I have had have stated "for use up to about 400-450 degrees". I've never seen a silicone product that states use up to 500 degrees. Personally, I don't think that I would chance it. You could always call manufacturer directly. I often do that to make sure.
