I assumed that they would have a leather sole similar to a ballet shoe. If you are looking for a shoe that will not strain your knees, these are not for you. I ordered my street size and one-half size larger. The street size Capezio's are perfect on bare feet or summer socks. As I continue class into the winter months, I may wear warmer socks, so I kept the larger size as well. Don't buy larger sizes. Just let the shoe mold around your foot. I used to dance in my younger years, so I know what ballet/jazz slippers are supposed to feel like.
