Driveway Crack and Joint Filler - Small Black is a contractor-grade thermo-plastic rubber designed for use with a propane torch or heat gun. It is a permanent, patented, self-leveling seal for small asphalt and concrete cracks. This product produces a 100% watertight seal. Review: Works As Described - Every summer, I've been fighting weed-growth through my asphalt and street-side curb. Tried latex and acrylics in the past, which were fine for one season, after which they failed. This promises to be a more permanent solution. First thing ... if you use a propane cannister with a regular torch-head, you will have problems. That's because tilting the cannister more than 60 degrees will cause flares, and the flame will lose focus. The torch-head can also fail from this (as mine did). A propane flame can work, if you have the right apparatus. My solution? A heat gun. Worked beautifully. Only one thing to note. Because the material arrives in a coil, you have to apply in short (1-5 inch), straight lengths to ensure proper layout in your target area. Once I figured all this out, the material performed perfectly, and I quickly (2 days - 5 hours total) filled all the trouble areas with what appears to be a permanent bond. The product is pricey for what it is, but the price here compared favorably with the competition. We'll see how the repair looks after one year. At the moment, it is tighter than anything I've ever tried in the past. Review: Adheres the best and didn't crack after 1 winter - I ordered a double-set of this 1/4" 2x. I also ordered a 1/2" small pail. They both adhere well to my asphalt driveway and concrete curbs and didn't crack after one winter. Adheres the best of several products I tried including acrylic tubes. After 1 winter the acrylic I applied has a single small crack running lengthwise in most of the cracks I filled. Not so for the PLI-Stix. I did find that the 1/4 inch was sufficient for most cracks and it melts faster than the 1/2 inch so uses less propane. I also like both sizes in that as long as the already treated crack surfaces are cleaned you can layer it by adding more new strips and heating/reheating this material in the cracks even after several months. In many cases I also cut these strips into small segments of an inch or less in many of the smaller cracks and it spreads out and runs down into the cracks. Note, it cuts more easily after leaving in the sun for 20 or more minutes. It's a lot of work if you have many cracks but I knew that going-in after reading reviews. Dries VERY GLOSSY though *by S***E on May 20, 2021* The product is easy to cut and I had good success using a rubber mallet to drive it into larger cracks before melting. It melts easily and does what it says. The only disappointment is that it dries VERY GLOSSY. Where I've used it, it looks like water running across my driveway from far away. I'm looking to see if I can put some sand or texture on it to reduce the glare. I'm sure it will look fine after my next full driveway sealing.
