The groomsmen went and lit them probably an hour or two before everyone showed up at the reception. Although the lights were technically still "on", they had dimmed so much you couldn't even tell there were lights in them. They stayed lit for over a week, but they were super dim. Not very useful. In a white lantern 2 lights did an OK job. The lights went dim much faster than I was expecting- maybe 4 hours.
