This might add a cool look to them & will definitely help absorb impact! Just thinking outside the box, I sincerely hope this works out well for you! Even if you can find something cheap from the Goodwill that has a fur lining that can be cut up to wrap & tie around your arm, leaving the tuffs visible at each end might look cool! I repaired a old Viking sword sheath like that by gluing the fur to the hard wooden scabbard & then I went to the crafts department at Wal-Mart & braided different color leather cord to cross wrap around the fur & it came out looking better than the original. I would try this before altering your cuffs worst case scenario you could still sell them if you start altering the cuffs themselves their value will depreciate.
