I wanted something to help me see the tiny writing on electronic components. The main magnifying area is made of glass, which is reassuring. There is some distortion as you'd expect for a cheap MG, but it does a good job with print etc. The built in light illuminates the area quite well. It's a cold light, towards the blue end of the spectrum, from 3 LEDs - 2 LEDs for the main lens and 1 for the smaller lens.The MG is powered by 3 AAA batteries (not supplied).The small high magnification lens is made of acrylic - so be careful cleaning, as it will scratch easily. This smaller lens is used with the MG right up to your eye (because of the very short focal length) and with the item to be viewed very close to the small lens. If you don't hold it right to your eye when using the small lens you get a very badly distorted image - sometimes appearing inverted.The photo I've attached of the crown print was taken with my Iphone right up against the small lens.I marked this down in my initial review because of the poorly printed logo rubbing off on mine. The manufacturer has been in touch and replaced the magnifying glass. The printed logo now appears to be better quality, but it was the level of after sales customer service which swayed me to edit my review to 5 stars. I didn’t know this until he started selling it, but every single piece of Lego has a tiny numerical code secretly hidden somewhere on the inside / underneath to help you identify and list the specific piece on the Lego selling site. We were originally using an eyeglass magnifier (used for looking at hall marks on jewellery) but because the codes are usually tucked away in dark corners of Lego pieces, half the time we just couldn’t read the code because it was too dark. This magnifying glass is excellent as the combined smaller, powerful magnifying lense coupled with the bright light has made the job of finding those pesky codes so much easier! Once I adjust it is several times bigger but definitely not 45x.
