The soft gray goes well with the black fire box. When the gas fire is lit, these lave pebbles hold the heat so you get a more efficient fire. Once you turn off the gas for the night, the pebbles continue to glow red and orange for about 10 minutes - quite a beautiful atmosphere. Just the thing to know about. My fireplace has a screen that closes it off from the hearth so I cannot close doors, hence the fire glows for a bit. I’m assuming I will have to replace them with something else after a while. I don’t think they should burn. I have moved them around on my firepit, but you can’t keep them completely away from the flames. They are supposed to be able to take the heat.
