I was issued a pre-fabricated stamp and inking kit somewhat different than this one when I was in AF BMT in 1976. However, this is one of the kits a military member would obtain to replace it later for makring more clothing. The inks are completely indelible in the extreme. Every uniform part MUST be marked in a designated location with the original issue kit or one like this one. The kit has white for when the marking location is a dark color and black for when the marking location is a light color. The one I received from BardPaper here on desertcart was brand new in new pristine condition. It is exactly as I remember them. Having one again takes me back a few years! This military mark I made in 1976 was one line in caps comprising first initial of last name, a hyphen, followed by the last four of my serial number which was my SSN. This kit has two handles each of which are capable of making two lines of markings - one comprising a a maximum of 4 letters centered next to one comprising a maximum of 15 letters. One could use a handle to make a stamp comprising the last four of one's serial number (SSN) with the other line comprising full last name followed by full or partial first name followed by middle initial if space allowed or some other arrangement of name. The typeset may be inserted into the handle so the short line is above or below the long long. The kit typeset contains an all capitalized typeset comprising one Q, one Z, one period, one hyphen, between 2 and 4 each of the other letters, and four each of numerals 0 through 9. A mirror for checkng how the stamp's impression will read is included. Two pads are attached to the container bottom, obviously one for the black ink, one for the white ink. There are no covers to cover the pads once inked, but the contents may be stored in there so that the transfer to them is minimized. Several plastic sandwich bags for the loose contents after use would be a good idea to keep ink from getting onto the pieces. The typeset box holds unused letters, numbers, and punctuation with the same grid design as the handle and has a lid so unused ones will not be loose in the kit after you use some of them. Well made, functional, and complete with two handles and pads. What more could you ask for???
