Review: Bestine Is The Best Of The Fast Solvents - I recently had cause to utilize this can of Bestine solvent in blending colors in a picture. It was the first time I had used the product and I was very impressed. The solvent allows the artist to nicely mix colors on high quality artist grade paper. Bestine is very thin and not at all turgid, as are some other solvents like turpentine. Additionally, the evaporative rate is "super fast" and I found that the product was totally evaporated within about 15 seconds. Thus, the product allows the artist to do the types of things that one would do with water, but not have to be prepared to allow the paintin to dry for 3 to 5 hours before going back and painting again on the same surface. There are a few warnings that one should be aware of when using Bestine. The product is highly flammable and it is NOT a good idea to smoke while utilizing this solvent. Additionally, the product is poisonous and should not be consumed. Also, the product should be used in a well ventilated room or the user will find themselves quickly becoming 'woozy' and potentially it can lead to unconsciousness. However, as long as the artist is aware of these characteristics of the product and make sure that the work area accommodates these concerns, one will find that Bestine is truly and excellent solvent and will give very good results when the need for even blending of watercolors arises. Thus, one should not be afraid to utilize the product as long as it is used properly with appropriate precautions. I do highly recommend this product as an excellent color blending solvent, particularly for use with watercolors.
Review: This is the best product I have found to loosen or remove adhesive. - I bought this to help get some old masking tape off of a board game box. The tape had already done some damage as a previous owner had tried to remove it and tore some of the paper on the box. With application of Bestine and gentle work with a Scotty Peeler, I was not only able to get the masking tape off of the box with no old adhesive residue left behind, but I was able to salvage some of the graphics that were partially torn off of the box. That this product was able to dissolve the adhesive and separate old masking tape from a remnant of paper that is tissue-thin is a real testament to its functionality. The added benefit is that there is no evidence or residue left over from this product. While part of the cardboard looked "wet" when I applied the solvent, once it dried completely, it was as though it wasn't there. Finally, though this solvent did wonders on the adhesive, it did not mar or dissolve the ink on the cardboard, and I could wipe away the dissolved adhesive without smearing the box ink. This is now part of my arsenal of products for cleaning up pricing stickers and tape on game boxes and books.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The Item for sale is 100% pure n-heptane, right? Better yet, can you tell me all the chemicals listed on the can?**
A: Why does the SDS say 40% n-Heptane? OK I checked the wiki: "Heptane is commercially available as mixed isomers for use in paints and coatings, as the rubber cement solvent Bestine..." The remaining 60% are the isomers of heptane.

**Q: Is this safe to use in removing the protective paper from acrylic?**
A: I work for a printing & graphics company. I use Bestine every day. It is safe on acrylic. Just be careful what you're using to rub the material with. Make sure the cloth, or cotton, is clean & soft. Change out the cloth frequently, as the adhesive you are removing builds up & causes smearing.

**Q: Will this remove rubber cement from fabrics too? I spilled it all over my backpack**
A: Bestine will thin rubber cement. As the rubber cement thins, I believe it will soak further into the fabric. Do not use bestine. To get rubber cement up from the fabric I would try to roll it out. A little rubber cement rolled off the fabric, will roll into a ball of rubber cement. Rubber cement sticks to rubber cement. Use the little ball of rubber cement, dabbed onto the rubber cement on the fabric, to pull the rubber cement off the fabric.

**Q: I need a way to dispense this better. We currently use a spray bottle but it seems to break the seal or something of that manner. any suggestions?**
A: I have a container that looks like a cone-shaped oil can with a screw top that loosens but doesn't come off. It's the best way to use Bestine, and used to be sold along side the cans. It removes all kinds of petroleum and plant based adhesives. The original "oil cans" don't seem to be available, but there is a Polish brand that's similar, The Squirt Thinner dispenser by Double E Distributing. It sometimes shows up in an Amazon search.Bestine is toluene, which is NOT a flammable liquid. However, the vapor/gas is. We used to dip our fingers in Bestine and light it. The gas would burn, but not burn our skin. Art department mischief

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ also removes silicone lube from surfaces!
*by Y***S on April 24, 2025*

Aside from its use with Bestest cement, this stuff (heptane) is the only solvent there is which will remove silicone lubricants from surfaces! Speaking as a retired engineer and materials consultant, I don't believe there is another substance (unless you like the idea of superheated silane gas) which will do that. Makes it incredibly handy around shops that deal with silicones. Heptane smells good to many people, but don't let it fool you - you need lots of fresh air / ventilation to work with this stuff.
