   Part 2: I got a replacement and it did the same thing as the first. I saw a review and someone posted  a video indoors of the device working which made me think they had it plugged into the wall. I realized it may not be getting enough power. The trick is to use 2.1A power source in your vehicle and it will work as described. A regular usb outlet from the car probably will not provide enough power to the device for it to work properly. Hope this helps!Original Review: The device does not work as described. The arms keep opening and shutting without cause. The instructions says it should do that for a few cycles to test tension. However, they did that for my entire 20 minute ride to work. Then I tried it again after work with the same result.

When I upgraded my phone from a Pixel to a Pixel 3, I came to the realization (too late!) that my phone holders in my car would not work for it. I used a magnetic one on the dash for winter and a ring holder on my vent for summer (the AC keeps the phone cool). Neither can be used with a wireless charge phone. This has worked great (for summer anyway) and it's very easy to use - just set the phone down and it clamps automatically, and it comes out in one easy movement with one hand when you get out of the car. I don't know how it will work during the winter (vent mounts mean heating up your phone during winter and built in cooling in summer), but for now, it's fantastic. I love that it's charging while I'm driving without me having to plug it in.
