It's lightweight and seals really well after a few openings and closings. (They do tell you that the seal strengthens with more use.) I only wish it wasn't plastic. I won't be dumping my cat's dry food in it, but I am happy to report that I can fit the 2.5 lb bag (Whole Earth Farms) inside the canister and still get it to close easily, so it will serve the purpose well. When it is closed, the seal is strong; I can lift it by the handle on top without worrying about it opening and crashing/spilling out everywhere. And I LOVE the paw prints. Will make it very obvious to my catsitter(s) where to find her food. And it's just super cute! Do be careful of dropping it, though. The lid comes off fairly easily and the seal doesn't seal that well even when the lid is on.
