Generally speaking, you'll need to increase pool alk whenever the pH drops below 7.4 or when alk levels drop below 80ppm. Ideally, you'll always want alk to range between 80 and 120ppm and should you dip below this you'll need to use a pool alk increaser. When alk is too high, your pool water is equally unsafe and scales will begin to form on your pool and pool equipment. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the same product for alkalinity increaser and/or ph increaser  ?**
A: No.  Alkalinity Increaser (which is baking soda or sodium bicarbonate) is not the same as pH Increaser.  Those are different products.  If you have a good way of aerating your water, i.e., creating lots of bubbles (like in a hot tub), you can actually increase pH through aeration.  In a hot tub, it is more likely that you would need pH Decreaser if you use the jets often. I rarely use pH Increaser in my pool. More often than not I need to decrease the pH level. You can use muriatic acid (sold in hardware stores) to accomplish that.

**Q: How does this bag get shipped so it does not arrive torn?  Is the bag placed in a box?**
A: in a box, yes

**Q: Is the 50 lb bag powder or granular?**
A: I use plain old Arm & Hammer baking soda a powder. That is what will increase Alkalinity.

**Q: can this be used with laundry?**
A: Yes, This chemical may be used in laundry, mostly to remove stains: create a paste with small amount of water and scrub on tough stains.
It's good on colors, hot or cold water, and as a disinfectant.
For tough dirty laundry you may need a soaping detergent as well..... good luck.....
