The Founder of the Word of Faith movement corrects "prosperity" preachers

*by R***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 7, 2008*

It might be found to be amazing by many people to discover that Kenneth E. Hagin, founder of the Word of Faith movement (WOF) was not only critical of those who preached a "poverty" doctrine, but ALSO those who espoused a lavish and unbalanced "prosperity" teaching as well. This book attempts to identify what he called the "ditches" on either side of the "road" of balanced biblical doctrine regarding God's desire to bless His children. Of particular note in the light of the current U.S. Senate Finance Committee's investigation of six televangelists, however, is this quote from page 192 of the book (a scan of which I have also added to the customer images for this book at the top of this Amazon listing):"We have seen an extreme emphasis on teaching that prosperity--especially material prosperity--is for Christians. Some have come to believe that demonstrating prosperity involves displaying a lavish, ostentatious lifestyle rather than being good stewards and efficiently harnessing abundant resources to promote the Gospel and to minister the goodness of Go to all who are in need."****In other words, had the six televangelists had read, accepted, and applied this correction to their lifestyles and doctrines, then they would not have been subjects of a Senate inquiry by Senator Chuck Grassley's office today.****This book is for ALL believers who would like to read a balanced biblical teaching on the subject of prosperity. In my opinion, however, it would be an especially important book for those who have been exposed to the "prosperity" teaching of recent years, to digest. Too many have been actually robbed of God's blessings through religious con-artists, as Hagin himself also noted on page 195:"In teaching prosperity, too many preachers seem to communicate the idea that receiving financial abundance is totally and exclusively tied to one thing--giving...usually to THEM! Don't misunderstand me. I believe in giving. I believe that giving is important. But it is not the only key to prosperity."He then continued from there teaching the importance of being diligent, having a good job or business, acquiring an education, and other practical things biblically-identified as keys to achieving success...both financially and otherwise. This book has my highest recommendation: Especially as a corrective balance to the "ditches" doctrines regarding this subject: Those who teach that poverty is a "proof" of "spirituality" on one side of the road, as well as those who teach material "prosperity" as a proof of righteousness or "blessing" from God on the other side of the road. The key, as Hagin also points out repeatedly, is that a balanced "middle of the road" approach to ANY biblical doctrine--including the topic of material prosperity--is necessary to avoid error and confusion.

    Excellent!

This book is hands down the best teaching on finances that we've ever seen. Finally someone in the body of Christ examines some of these mainstream Christian doctines that are getting a little out of hand. Dr. Hagin closely examines the most well known doctrines on money according to the Bible and makes the excellent point that if its not in the Bible----why would you accept it as scriptural? What makes this book so powerful is that Dr. Hagin really finds the balance between the two extremes that we often see in the church. There are those who believe that Jesus was poor and having financial resources is sinful and then there are those that get into the ditch on the other side of the road by pursuing money instead of the more important things. What God wants for us is somewhere in the middle---we all need financial resources and God is not against us having money, God just doesn't want the money to have us. This book should be required reading in every seminary as it will really help all ministers and congregations to find the balance of what God really wants to do with our resources. There are many great quote in this book---here's one:"Then Jesus talked to me about the last church I had pastored, saying that at that time, February 1949, I had entered into the first phase of my ministry. He said that some ministers he had called to the ministry live and die without getting into even the first phase He has for them. Jesus added that is one reason why many ministers die prematurely —they are living only in His permissive will! For fifteen years I had been only in His permissive will. I had been a pastor for twelve years and had been in evangelistic work for three. During those years God permitted me to do it, but it wasn’t His perfect will for my life. And He said that, I hadn’t been waiting on Him; He had been waiting for ME to obey Him."

This book is one of the most balanced teachings I have read on the subject of financial prosperity! Kenneth Hagin has done an excellent job exposing the truth about financial prosperity using the word of God. His approach to explaining every aspect using scripture and experience is simply one of the best exposition I have seen on this subject. This is well worth the price! Go ahead purchase it! You won’t regret your decision!
