My solution was to go and buy a plain cut door key, open the plastic top and take out the metal key, do the same for this key, it snaps open. Be careful not to lose the gray chip, they can fall out. use a drill to clean the hole where the key is attached and remove it. Cut or grind the cut key so it will fit into the same space (it is a straight shank) I used a little super glue and then snapped the key case back, ensuring the gray chip was in. once done, checked that the key worked in the door and ignition for motion. It should turn the engine over. Then I used this procedure to program the key: YES, it sounds silly, BUT IT DOES WORK!! 1. Open the driver’s door, all other doors closed but unlocked. 2. Without turning it, Insert master key in/out of ignition 5 times, leave key in on 5th insert. 3. Now close/open the driver door 6 times, leaving the door open the 6th time. 4. Pull out master key, the security light (on the left of the steering wheel in the panel) will light solid (program mode). Immediately insert the unprogrammed key DO NOT TURN. 5. Leave key in ign for 60-80 sec, security lights flashes, when it stops flashing. Remove replacement key. 6. Immediately insert Master key into ignition and turn it to on position, don’t start the car, then off and remove. Done! Now try the new key, the car should start. My more responsible wife still had her original set of keys. Wasn’t going to pay 150 dollars for a replacement due to the age of the vehicle. Ordered a new ignition key and remote fob via Amazon Prime. Had the new key cut at Home Depot by copying the original key. That gave me a new key that could engage the starter but by design, it would not start the car. The new cut key needs the chip programmend to start the car. I programmed the new key and remote in the Home Depot parking lot in less than 10 minutes. The procedures were well documented on YouTube for both items. Just select a video that gets to the point. There are 10 to 12 minute videos for some reason that document 60 seconds of work. I played the YouTube video on my phone and simply followed along. There is a procedure for the key and a different procedure for the push button remote. For some cars such as this Sienna, the car and old keys (wife’s set of keys) are all you need to program the new key and remote. Specific sequences of inserting keys into ignition and opening and closing drivers door enables the car to program the new key. The new remote had different specific procedures but same philosophy.
