I wouldn't buy this set intending on using Take and Play engines with it. **Q: What age is this for?** A: I am not sure what age recommendation was on the box. We bought it for our 3 year old son and he loves it. You need to put it together for your child but my son likes to build his own simple tracks with it. I see older kids playing with it as well. My husband really enjoys it as well. I will not recommend this train for kids less then 3. Overall we really love it! My husband bought some extra tracks and another train, connected them together. Lots of fun! **Q: Can i connect Thomas the train Sodor with this toy set?** A: Only if the Thomas the Train Sodor has the Tan track. If it's the dark Gray track then No. **Q: how many pieces in this set?** A: Between 30-40 pieces are included.
