I was mistaken- lots of cursing and struggling and eventually tearing the new grip. Bought a replacement grip and this tool, but expected it to be at least a bit of a struggle. Nope. Went on easier than all the other standard grips I’ve done. I’ll probably even start using this for regular grips as well since it’s so easy. Definitely worth the few bucks to save all the hassle.

It didn't work as easily as I hoped; however, it does help put the grip on the shaft; however, it is cheap lightweight piece of plastic and costs far more than it should. I think I would have been better off 3D printing my own version of this tool but I didn't have time as I needed to regrip some old TaylorMade Bubble Burner 2's before a golf trip as my new clubs didn't arrive in time.
