        			Turkish Delight The sweet and tender, sugar-dusted delicacy of Turkish Delight has a long and illustrious history.  At first it was only the food of royalty: Legend has it that the sweet was first created when the Sultan insisted that his chefs come up with a confection so novel and delicious that it would silence the endless bickering of the wives in his harem. So successful were they that "Lokum", as it was then called, swiftly gained cult status. Gifts of lokum wrapped in lace handkerchiefs were exchanged as love tokens and the melt-in-the-mouth sweet was found on every table in Turkey.  Eventually in the 19th century a British traveller brought the confection back home with him, naming it "Turkish Delight" and it rapidly became as popular in Western Europe as it had been in the Sultan's court.  We looked for the perfect balance of firmness to stickiness and sought out craftsmen who still used traditional production methods. At the same time looking out for innovative flavours to delight the modern palate. No range of Turkish Delight would be complete without the most traditional varieties, so you will find here the delicate flavours of lemon and rose, and the exotic taste of pistachio (a favourite of Winston Churchill and Napoleon!).  Turkish delight makes a delicious alternative to chocolates with after dinner coffee but is just as good served with a cup of espresso in the morning. For a taste of something really exotic, try it with a small cup of mint tea.
