Review: DO NOT BUY - Been a Symantec and Norton user for many, many years…however the time has finally come to cut the cord. The free built-in to all PC’s Windows Defender has gotten incredibly good and is within a very slim margin of Norton’s antivirus abilities, with Norton edging out slightly better. However, the latest business model of Norton is to try to extract as much cash from you as possible and this, in my opinion, negates any of the marginal benefit of there antivirus software. I’ve put up with this stuff for the last 5 years even though its been getting worse with each subsequent year, but the tracking of my personal info has been the last straw. It is a huge pain, like a 30 min ordeal, to turn off auto-renewal and they prevent you from removing your credit card number with them. The software cannot be easily modified to change the default virus scan such that it also requires you to perform a “performance” scan, which of course ends up trying to up-charge you $149 to perform these performance actions—total BS with today’s RAM levels and CPU processing power. You get very scammy/promotion emails galore, like at-least 1 per day on trying to upsell you on something. The app has tons of pop-ups trying to upsell you on additional products and it took me 20 mins trying to figure out how to turn these off. However, my biggest issue is the despite being an antivirus product, its own security vulnerabilities are galore. Built into the software is an identity thief’s gold mine! By default the software enables external control of your PC through Norton’s servers! It also sends daily computer logs of your PC to their servers, and these are not just antivirus related reports but tracking of all your actions that you have used the PC for…I suspect it so they can sell your info to data brokers and make some $$. Also these setting are hidden across the program forcing you to go into the weeds to disable them all. These software ports also allow for them to auto download promotional updates to constantly display on your PC with random popups at the worst times (like playing a game or typing something into Word), and these pops are set automatically at a the “high level” so they will display over whatever software/app your currently using. To end this review on a positive…..it looks like the company has finally stopped their “Norton Crypto” so i no longer get constant requires to be a crypto miner for their digital currency which was basically Ethereum rebranded and was totally worthless as it cost your more money in electricity than you’d make in the currency.

Been a Symantec and Norton user for many, many years…however the time has finally come to cut the cord. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Product, but here is what you need to know...

1. Most of the ‘chatter’ that you hear is incorrect and made up by people that like ‘free stuff’ - ie: it takes over my computer, conflicts with other programs. Etc. 2. This Amazon version requires you to sign up for auto-renew to register it (that is why it is cheaper for the year subscription) but you can cancel the auto-renew right after you register your current copy. Enjoy the small cost for a great product. 3. You really can’t install antivirus on an infected computer, it will cause issues installing, running , and updating any antivirus software. 4. You should have your system professionally cleaned up before you install any antivirus. Norton supplies a tool to help you if your system is in a ‘bad way’ called Norton Power Eraser, NPE – which is a free download. Run it first to get most of the really bad stuff, then you can install your new Norton Antivirus 5. Every company tries to upsell you to get more money and to sell you more options for their products. 99% of people are better off with just antivirus, you don’t need track eraser, VPN, firewall, backup, and many other features that is available from Norton. (sorry Norton, ie Symantec corporation) The more you install, that you don’t really need, the slower your computer will be and it will also affect your internet speed and connectivity to secure sites if you are running any VPN software.
