Also, unlike some reviewers, I have not had a problem with short battery life.When you receive your Snark, it probably won't contain a battery. The battery will be included in a separate plastic bag. This would be great, because it means that you receive a unit with a fresh battery, if it weren't for one thing: Snark's instructions don't tell you that the battery isn't in the device. You turn it on and nothing happens. In my case (and apparently for many others), the battery bag stuck inside the box and I didn't see it there. It's a very small box and it's easy to miss something stuck inside. Fortunately Amazon members who read my original review told me about it.The instructions make no mention of the battery or of the need to install it except to tell how to replace it after it grows weak.About the Snark itself: It's been twenty years since I last played guitar. In those days, I tuned it to my acoustic piano, but I sold the piano the last time I moved and at present I don't have a speaker for my synthesizer, so I decided I'd try some sort of tuning device and the Snark got rave reviews, so I ordered it.Now that it's working, it's great! Today's the first day I've owned it, so I can't attest to its durability, but it's a cleverly designed little device. It pivots in two places, making it possible to see the face from virtually any angle. I feared that it would be hard to read located on the end of the headstock, but there's no problem at all. Its display is bright and easy to read.Overall I'm very impressed so far. I also like the fact that it can also tune other instruments, not just guitar.I would have given it five stars if it weren't for the fact that the instructions make no mention of the battery being in the box. I'm docking one star for this. Otherwise it's a very clever device that so far has impressed me. I like the idea of letting the customer install the battery - we get the freshest battery that way - but they really should tell us in the instructions!I'll post an update if there's more to report after I've used it for a while.UPDATE:After a year and a half of use, the Snark still performs well. My only problem is that today I discovered that the plastic broke that holds the Snark body onto the clip. I now can only tune my guitar using the microphone. It's not a huge problem, but tuning by vibration is more reliable, so at some point I will buy a replacement. I don't know how it broke, but enough pressure must have been put on my guitar case at some point to break the plastic. I recommend that unless you make sure you have enough clearance, don't leave it on the clip with the guitar care closed.I still think it's a great little device. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars So much easier, so little $$ -- a delightful little thing *by J***3 on Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2012* I was using an old-school Korg tuner for my acoustic guitar. It worked fine, but any noise in the vicinity would make the "VU-style" needle bounce all over. And I had to manually switch the notes for each string.Enter the Snark. I felt a little guilty buying a new tuner when I already had one that worked fine. But I'm SO glad I splurged on this thing! It was worth every penny. It would still be worth every penny if it had cost twice as much. The display is so easy to read, and it clips to the headstock so both my hands are free throughout the tuning process, which means I can tune more easily and accurately using 12th-fret harmonics. It's very easy to read whether the note is in tune or not, and the display holds long enough for you to get to the tuning peg and see the effect of your tuning on the note.Everything about this item is really well thought out. One thing the main photo doesn't show is the small curved neck this tuner has. The neck doesn't adjust like a gooseneck; it swivels in ball-and-socket joints, so it's quite rigid and yet also easy to adjust for any instrument so you can get a good view as you tune. (There are some customer-supplied photos on the listing if you want to see how it works.) The clip is very well cushioned so it doesn't leave any marks on the instrument.A couple customers have said they had battery life problems. I haven't. I'm fairly vigilant about turning it off when I'm done, but it turns itself off pretty quickly in any case. The batteries are cheap CR 2032s -- kind of like coin-sized watch batteries -- so it's not a big deal to replace them. Shouldn't cost more than a buck or two to buy a new one, but I've had this tuner for months and it's still going strong with its factory-supplied battery, despite daily use.All in all, a pleasure to use and total win on every front.
